Sonoma is a small town in Marin County, California. The population was 5,871 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Sonoma Coast about 15 miles north of San Francisco and 25 miles southeast of Petaluma. The first Europeans to visit what is now Sonoma were Spanish traders in 1776. They named the area "Isla de Santa Rosa" after the patron saint of Spain. A mission was established here in 1821 by Father Junípero Serra, who also founded Monterey Bay Missionary Church on Arcata Peninsula. In 1846, part of Sonoma became part of California while remainder became part of Nevada Territory. In 1849, Vallejo purchased Rancho Petaluma from José Cornelio Martinez for $5,000 and began to cultivate land here with his son Josefito Martinez. With ocean access through Point Reyes National Seashore on one side and Sonoma Strait on the other gradually opening up as shipping increased in the late 19th century, Vallejo started producing crops such as wheat, barley, cotton and olives; however there was little trade or industry until he built an wharf next door to ship his goods using local labor - beginning what would eventually become known as Valley Redding Industries (VRI). By 1870 VRI's output had grown so much that it moved into new buildings at willoughby Street and Center Street near downtown Sonoma. By 1906 it employed over 1,000 workers including women sewers and housekeepers; ran its own power plant; made radios and automobiles; donated land for a public school; constructed a water tower; built churches (the First Baptist Church opened in 1912), warehouses (the First Presbyterian Warehouse opened in 1915) and homes for himself and his numerous mistresses around town center including actress Norma Talmadge (1915-1976). In 1916 he married her sister Alma Talmadge/Lumumbide whom he had met when they both worked at VRI together A study conducted by University of California Regents studying how valley industries have changed during past 50 years found that: "dependence upon mainland markets has led to decline in output per worker due to higher input costs from imported materials". However this dependence may be changing as BAE Systems plans to build an entire new production line for electric vehicles worldwide outfitting their company's newest factory in Temecula County which will create more than 400 jobs over 10 years! Today many people identify themselves with one or more causes:, environmentalism-protecting our planet earth from damage caused by human activity like mining pollution etc.; feminist/leftist activism pushing back against traditional gender roles within society-women getting paid equal wages & having some say inside businesses& government & taking control over education & health care decisions within their own households (& latterly beyond); religious unaffiliated individuals coming together to help feed those who cannot fed themselves or run their own homes (& likewise take care of those less fortunate not related to any religion)
