Berger starts to sell coffeeapples from his home. 1905 - The first espresso machine is purchased by Italian immigrant Angelo Giacomo Pezzotta in Weingarten. 1966 - The first CAFÉRestaurant opens in Petaluma with the purchase of the defunct Beaumont Coffee Roasters property by entrepreneur Bob Frisch. 1981-1982 - A new 3,000-square-foot café called Café Du Nord opens in Soquel with the purchase of the former Pismo Beach Coffee House location by entrepreneur Noel Kornbluth and restaurateur Marty Weiner. 1987 - The first Starbucksopens in Sonoma with Howard Schultz as CEO.
Sonoma, California is a small town in Northern California. It was founded in 1843 by General John Brougham and named for the Sonoma Valley, which lay to the south. The population of Sonoma as of 2010 was 37,721 people. The Agricultural Land Act of 1846 granted Rancho San Rafael to James Walthall and his son Christopher Walthall. In 1868, Michael Hahn purchased the Rancho Saucepan from Christopher Walthall. On November 15, 1868, Hahn organized a land county that became known as Marin County with its capital at Sausalito. In April 1870, water rights were acquired from Ramon Pardo for $5 per acre on the north side of Highway 1 near where it enters Sonoma Valley today. This allowed him to build a brewery and warehouse on Pardoe Street near town center that remains one ofSonoma's most prominent landmarks today. Today's Brewery District includes several buildings dating back to this time including Almanac Beer Company Building #2 and the old Pacific Telephone Building (now part of UC Davis). In May 1971 when Interstate 80 was completed through Sonoma County, he donated property along Thousand Oaks Boulevard east of Interstate 5 just south of downtown Torrance for what is now Michelin-starred Rodeo Drive wine country restaurant—Rodeo Drive Inn & Spa—and other development over time has included an airport (the current airport occupies former airmail facilities), office parks (including Adobe Park), a golf course (Chateau Monterey) and a new shopping mall (Mira Park). The first post office opened in Sonoma on October 11, 1850; it closed in 1865 due to lack of mail volume. The present post office building was built in 1911 across from State Route 12A/UpperCLASS High School; it served as an armory during World War II until being moved to its current location after the war. It is interesting to note that all three major newspapers published their first editions in towns or villages throughout Northern California during this early years: The Callenbach Times had its first edition published at Sutterville on July 4, 1850; The Enterprise had its first edition published at Ukiah on January 3rd [1853]; and Donner Pass Road Journal had its first edition published at Novato on December 7th [1858]. In 1861 Danvers discovered oil along Umpqua River which led to increased exploration within Sonoma County followed by larger wells discoveries nationally beginning around 1902 such as those made by John Dutton at Healdsburg and George Eastman at Petaluma among others followed by many commercial oil companies including Standard Oil Co., ChevronTexaco Inc., Mobil Oil Co., Permian Basin Petroleum Corp., National Oilwell Varieties Corp., Texaco Production Company etc.. Production peaked around 1951 with more than 2 million barrels produced annually according to some estimates while others report production levels below 500 thousand barrels per year today primarily due to environmental concerns over oil spills during production particularly those associated with hydraulic fracturing/ injection well drilling technique known as “fracking” although there have been numerous clean up operations since then both large scale injections into underground reservoirs which have greatly reduced pollution levels adjacent thereto as also well various agricultural uses including drinking water supplies for cities such as Los Angeles et al.. However recent reports indicate that thousands if not millions more barrel may be recoverable still despite overall decline in production although some projects are proceeding apace notwithstanding these challenges..
