Sonoma is a small town located in Northern California, about an hour east of San Francisco. It was founded in 1847 by Captain John Fenton and his wife, Susannah Fenton. The name Sonoma comes from the Spanish word for "wild grapes" and means "place where wild grapes are found." The first post office in Sonoma opened in 1851. In the early 1800s, Sonoma County was one of the most productive wine-producing areas in North America. Today, however,Sonoma has Lost its heyday as a wine-producing county due to changes in production patterns and technology. In fact, only 1% of all wine made worldwide is produced within Sonoma County limits today! The following are some highlights ofSonoma history: 1) The first white wines were made here in Sonoma County during the 1850s by Drury & Company under the name 'New Beginnings'. These wines were tart with lots of flavor and not too sweet like later white wines would be. 2) By 1880, wineries such as Chateau Montelupo had started producing very sweet red wines which became popular among sophisticated consumers. However, these same wineries also produced some great tannins (biochar) that gave these wines their characteristic taste and texture which continue to make them popular to this day! 3)In 1905 President Theodore Roosevelt visited Sonoma County and sent a delegation including Governor George Norris to try new methods of grape growing at Napa Valley that year known as 'The Roosevelt Experiment'. This led to increased vineyard acreage being planted throughout Napa Valley which greatly increased production especially for burgundy styles such as roquefort and boursault while decreasing yields for other styles such as gorgonzola! 4) After WW II many familyowned wineries closed or moved production away from California due to depressed prices for wine after WWII combined with advances in viticulture techniques such as appellation designations! However, several notable exceptions including Montgomery Wines continues operations today making quality & interesting wine without using appellation designations!

Sonoma County, California is located in Northern California and is bordered by Napa County to the south and east, San Francisco County to the north, and Mendocino County to the west. The population of Sonoma was 727,164 as of 2016. The county seat is Santa Rosa. The first Europeans to visit what is now Sonoma were Spanish missionaries in 1769. fur traders from the Bay Area also traveled through Sonoma in search of new grazing land for their horses and cattle. In 1821 a group of farmers led by John Crenshaw founded Rohnert Park on a hill overlooking creek bed that became known as Rancho Rohnertos. In 1847 Jedediah Smith discovered gold near Sutro Mesa and began exploring for other minerals including coal at Butte Hill Mines but no gold was found until 1849 when prospector Harry Golden found two ounces of gold per tonne at Atherton Pass. With this discovery many people came into Sonoma County looking for new land to settle because they could no longer farm in the Sacramento Valley due to disease brought over by arriving settlers. By 1850 there were more than 200 buildings with a population of 5,000 people living in towns such as Petaluma, Windsor (now part of Redwood City), Santa Rosa, Ukiah, Menlo Park (now Novato), Oakville (OAKVILLE), Millbrae (MILLBROOK), Walnut Creek (WALNUTCreek Heights) and Rio Nido (Rio Nido). The Gold Rush turned out to be a bust because most miners returned home before they ran out ofode or else picked up diseases from local women who worked in the mines- one woman died from tuberculosis after working at Rohnert Park. Nevertheless many families left California for parts unknown during this time period due to lack of resources or transportation options available back then- some went as far east as Oregon where they started farms or headed South down I-5 all the way to Mexico City before finally returning home during World War II when transport became available again A few years later another group decided it was time for another go at mining so they started an unsuccessful diggings around Galden Point which later yielded oil shale which was processed into plastics and other products like car seats before being exported all over the world In 1876 Jameson & Company opened a beefpacking plant in Petaluma which soon proved successful so J&J decided it would be worth investing in real estate so they bought lots around town culminating with what is now called downtown Santa Rosa although part of petaluma until 2004 when it united with nearby Rosslyn to form Downtown Santa Rosa Incorporated. During these years small businesses popped up throughout downtownSanta Rosa likeigmatryttepubliclibrarytheatreand several restaurants mixing classical music with contemporary Americana cuisine making it one fun place not just for tourists but also locals who enjoyed getting their hands on fresh produce since downtownSanta Rosa had no grocery store then nor does it currently!
