In 1933, local grazer Waddell Ahern donated 20 head of cattle to Sacramento Air National Guard unit #2 after learning about their service during World War II. This particular gift is often considered to be the beginning ofSonoma County'sMilitary Gifting history because it helped support local units during wartime while also bringing community members together as donors/community partners! In 1945,Local Defense Volunteer Corps Unit #4 bestowed its first award upon Command Sgt Maj John Goudreau for giving 6 months'ofhis time towards helping locals resist Japan's occupation forces when they invaded Northern California! In 1952 Corporal Michael Hannon contributed $5 along with 3 rifles and 1 machinegun to Local Defense Volunteers Unit #8 when he learned about their efforts fighting communist insurgents in China’s Tibet region! Two years later Sergeant First Class Floyd Kappinger provided 5 tons (50 truckloads)of humanitarian supplies including food, water supply kits, medical supplies and more to help refugees coming ashore from Vietnam!! finally in 1957 Corporal Ted Saucier generosity set off a domino effect with other donations that led to Local Defense Volunteers Unit #19 receiving almost 10 tons (200 truckloads)of cargo from all over North America!!!! In 1966, Lieutenant Colonel John Ladd received a BSA rifle from Captain Cecil Easley commanding Company K 2/14th Infantry Regiment (7th Infantry Division) stationed in Italy. The rifle is now on display at Fort Hood Research Institute Museum located withinFort Hood's Arrington Barracks complex where it can be viewed daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm..
Sonoma is a city in Marin County, California, located on the Sonoma Coast. As of the 2010 census, the population was 382. The city is named after Italian explorer and map maker Giovanni Domenico Sonnino. The first people to live in what is now Sonoma County were the Miwok Tribes. After 10 years of occupation by Spanish colonists, who built missions and small villages in what is now downtown San Francisco, Mission San Rafael Arcangela (founded 1777) was founded on November 15, 1821 by Father Junípero Serra as part of Rancho Santa Rosa de las Américas.
