Airforce gifts have been a part of the El Monte community since the early days of World War II. When the Air Force was founded in 1947, most of its officers and enlisted men were stationed at Rosamond Field in San Bernardino County. The military's first gift to the city was an aviation gasoline dispenser, which was donated by Lt. Col. Raymond E. Wesson, commander of the 9th Bomb Wing at Downey Army Airfield. In 1951, the Air Force presented a two-ton aircraft engine to Mayor Harry Baca and City Manager Donal O'Malley for use as a civic center facility. The gift helped begins what would be an illustrious relationship between El Monte and the Air Force over many years - an air force station has operated continuously within town limits since then! In 1964, Northrop Grumman donated 100 new F-4E Phantom fighter jets to help build up local air defense capabilities during Operation Desert Storm. Since then, numerous other gifts from various branches of service have graced our city walls - including 25 Humvees (2007), 10 Boeing 727s (2009), 15 Cessna Caravan airplanes (2011), 12 F-15C Eagles (2013), and 6 Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion maritime patrol planes (2015). Many more will be on display at El Monte's history museum starting in 2019!

There are also several small businesses in South ElMonte that provide services such as plumbing, mechanics, home repair/repair services, lawn care/mowing services, pet daycare/ grooming services, food delivery (and later fast food restaurants), and small business centers that offer various types of retail space including grocery stores, clothing stores, health clubs/spas/, convenience stores,.

The Air Force was founded on December 12, 1947 as the United States Armed Forces Aeronautics and Space Agency. The USAF is one of the most powerful military forces in the world, with over 2 million active duty members and more than 100,000 reserve officers and enlisted personnel. It operates more than 350 bases around the world, including 65 in North America. In 2013, the USAF celebrated its centennial year – an occasion that has been marked by many important milestones. One such milestone was the acquisition of new Boeing 727-200 jets for use within the USAF’s strategic airlift capabilities. Other Significant achievements during this time include: In 1951, President Harry S Truman signed legislation establishing Joint operational headquarters (JOHO) at Offutt AFB in Omaha Nebraska; subsequently renamed Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (HAPE). JOHO was responsible for all aspects of Allied land operations worldwide and played a critical role in allied victory against Nazi Germany during World War II. In 1956 JOHO relocated from Offutt AFB to Maxwell AFB in Alabama where it remained until 1990 when it relocated again to Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton Ohio As part of STRATCOM/NORAD’s mission JOHO became responsible for all aspects of nuclear deterrence across NATO nations In 2007 STRATCOM merged with NORAD to create Unified Command which includes aeronautics & space activities as well

South El Monte was founded on January 17, 1873 by James W. Webb and his friend George H. Sloat. The town became a small agricultural community as it grew around the railroads that ran through it. In 1916, South El Monte became part of the City of Los Angeles when that city was formed from parts of five adjacent towns. South El Monte has seen a number of changes over its history: from a small agricultural community to an upscale suburb; from a manufacturing center to an area focused on education and technology; and finally, from a largely Hispanic neighborhood to one with more Asians and Latinos in recent years. Today, South El Monte is home to many affluent residents who have made their money in various industries including technology, real estate, retailing, health care and other sectors. The neighborhoods in which South El Monte sits are also diverse with large numbers of people from different cultural backgrounds living close together. There are several libraries and parks located in the town which provide easy access to popular destinations such as Hollywood Boulevard and Rolling Hills Park.
The city of South El Monte was first settled in 1847 by the brothers Santiago and Manuel Lopez. The site for the town was a Rancho de las Pulgas, which belonged to Juan Bautista Alvarado. In 1851, following Mexican–American War, Los Angeles County was created from parts of California, including Orange County. The county seat was located at Santa Ana. In 1861, during American Civil War, Confederate forces burned down the San Jacinto Bridge over the Santa Clara River in South El Monte. In 1923, South El Monte absorbed part of North El Monte and renamed it North El Monte. On April 1, 1924, all of Los Angeles County became a single political entity known as the State of California. The City of South El Monte continued to be a local government until it merged with neighboring cities on December 20th 1984 under Mayor Rudy Martinez’s leadership into what is now called Metro LA-SouthElMonte
