South El Monte is a census-designated place in Los Angeles County, California, United States. It is located on the border of Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties. The first European to visit what is now South El Monte was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542 when he sighted land that he thought might be a new continent. On July 1, 1769, Mission San Antonio de Padua founded by Father José Murillo erected a mission here after sailing from Mexico City with 168 passengers and crewmen on the "Santa Catalina". Deep enough to subsist on sea food only but wide enough for an organized town (the mission had no streets), San Antonio quickly grew into one of Southern California's most important towns and became known as "the First Town in All of California." In 1847 Mexican General Agustín Maletán laid out this area as Rancho Santa Anita which became part of the city of Los Angeles in 1853 when it was created from portions of two previous towns: Arcadia and Redondo Beach; both were established by Anglo-Americans who bought land adjacent to missions then used it for ranching and farming until annexation by Los Angeles made it their ownTownship in 1871. A post office called South El Monte opened on October 29th, 1875; its name changed to Angelino Station on December 12th, 1895 after Señor Alvaro Obregon became Governor ofLos Angeles County; finally to its present name upon incorporation as a city on November 14th, 1907

The coffee monopoly was short-lived and Coffee beans were exported from Anatolia for years afterwards. The first espresso machine was invented by Angelo Banchi in 1795. In 1825, Giovanni Battista Perugini patented the first espresso machine which could be used with milk or cream.
South El Monte is a city in Southern California, located about 30 miles south of Los Angeles. As of the 2010 census, the population was 57,362. South El Monte was founded by Mexicans in 1881 as Rancho San Simon de los Padres and became a part of Los Angeles County in 1912. They built their businesses around ranching and transportation, developing what would become one of Southern California’s major industries. The region also saw heavy immigration from eastern Europe and Asia during this time period; these newcomers came to work on American farms and railroads. In 1916, South El Monte became an independent city after voters ratified proposition V, which granted it autonomy from Los Angeles County despite reservations from many in the Mexican-American community about becoming an separate entity. The city has experienced significant growth since its incorporation into LAUSD; today it has a population over 60,000 and continues to be one of Southern California’s most vibrant cities.
