South Gate, California is a town located in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded on October 15, 1887 by Thomas Edison and his wife Eliza Weber. In 1930 it merged with neighboring Riverside to form the City of South Gate. The first coffee beans were roasted in an unincorporated area of Riverside County called Conejo. The first café in South Gate opened its doors on March 1, 1928 and featured Ishmael Smith’s Coffee Roasters roasting beans from Africa. At that time, South Gates residents could purchase their morning cup of Joe at the local grocery store. In 1957, the original equipment for making espresso machines was purchased by Italian immigrant Angelo Morrone who renamed them La Gazzetta Espresso & Teavana (later Starbucks). La Gazzetta served as shop and café until 1984 when it became a restaurant known as The Star-Keeper which remains open today as a coffee house/café hybrid attraction with daily menu items such as breakfast burritos and salads. In 1992 King Coffee moved into its current location adjacent to The Star-Keeper which has been operated by the same family since 1994. Today King Coffee operates three stores within walking distance of each other in the heart of downtown South Gate: one across from Kings Park Regional Park; one on Main Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue; and one on Pico Boulevard just east of Interstate 10 next to Jamba Juice

South Gate is an unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 1,817 at the 2010 census. It is located on State Route 91 about northeast of downtown San Bernardino and east of Interstate 10. The name "South Gate" was given to the community by a group of local farmers who were looking for a place to graze their stock while traveling through the area. South Gate is also home to SouthGate Mall, which opened in 1984 and features over 50 stores and restaurants including Sears, Macy's, JCPenney, Kmart, Burger King, Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts. The town was first established in 1875 as a small agricultural village called East Mathers Station. A post office was established at South gate in 1877 under the name of East Mathers Station. In 1888 the name of the town changed to Southgate when it became part of San Bernardino County. The original settlers were men from eastern California who had come west to escape religious persecution back home. In 1992, South Gate passed along with most other communities within San Bernardino County into state control as part of Proposition 209 because they did not support California's then-unconstitutional measure calling for Equal Rights for All citizens statewide. SouthGate residents have since fought unsuccessfully against this proposal in court; however it remains an election issue on ballots throughout the county every year.

While other countries followed suit (the UK did it in 1871), Indonesia remained largely untouched until 1971 when Indonesia became an republic and its president stated his intention to import whole beans direct from Africa rather than through European traders like himself who had been purchasing dried beans since 1598 AD! Consequently, Nescafe became Indonesia’s first artisanal coffee house! From then on, every president would order fresh roasted Javans from Tanah Merah plantation where their expert team inspected each batch for quality before shipping them off into various parts of the world!

In 1847, the Mexican land grant of Rancho San Antonio de Los Cahuillas was given to José Joaquín Cámpora by Governor Manuel Micheltorena. The rancho stretched from present-day South Gate in Contra Costa County to part of the city of Sacramento. In 1873, Rancho La Selva was awarded to Francisco Marroquin and his brother Pedro, who subdivided it into parcels for sale. By 1893, about 1,000 acres were sold for $15 per acre. On July 14, 1903, South Gate incorporated as a town under the name of East Bay City. The first post office at South Gate was established on December 12, 1848. It was located on the east side ofcurrent Main Street between what is now Second and Third streets. The original Postmaster was Hilario Ramos y Castillo and served until 1850 when he moved to North Bay City where he continued to serve as postmaster until 1852. On August 29, 1876 an agreement was made between Oakland Mayor John Fenton and Captain George Averill (of Alameda) wherebySouthGate would become an annexe of Oakland after Averill built a ferry landing thereabouts which became known as Southgate Landing or simply "the Landing." The Landing proved so successful that annexation proceedings were not pressed further until after Averill's death in 1888 without leaving any children behind him who might have taken up the cause or at least helped carry out his vision; however this landing also failed due largely to lack of money from various sources combined with political obstructionism by then-Mayor Fenton himself; continuingOakland's pattern in regards to annexations throughout its history). A similar situation developed with regard to North Bay City with its original goal being only annexed but instead it evolved into both a separate municipality within Oakland proper as well as becoming one sidekick/fiefdom within politically powerful Richmond County - something that still occurs today outsideOakland proper limits despite very clear community desires for separation/independence (most notably among African American residents in north bay city)). The main thoroughfare through South Gate during its early years was Main Street which ran perpendicular northwest-southeast before turning northeast near Mission Boulevard towards downtown Berkeley while later branching off First Avenue just past Sloat Boulevard heading southeast towards Daly City before terminating at Santa Clara Streets near Interstate 80 (northwest corner). The first Europeans to visit South Gate were the Spanish in 1823. The mission was founded in 1824 by Father José de Alcalá y Luna and named San Francisco de Asís after General Sebastián Vizcaíno, who visited California in 1821. In 1850, the United States acquired California from Mexico and began construction of Mission Bay on the north shore of San Francisco Bay. The new mission was completed in 1853 and named for U.S. President James K. Polk because he had helped broker the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the Mexican–American War. In 1863, John Cranch discovered oil near South Gate and developed it into a business called Southern Pacific Oil Company. In 1886, South Gate became part of Mayfield Village when that community was established along Presidio Boulevard east of Market Street. The population at South Gate peaked at around 10,000 during World War II but declined following the war due to disease and military occupation. In 1951, SouthGate was incorporated as a city with its own government under Mayor Pro Tem Harry Wohlman. SouthGate experienced another wave of growth following Proposition 13 (the anti-discrimination measure) which passed in 1978 and set limits on property values within city limits
