The Coast Guard was founded in 1917 and has served the community of South Gate, California for over seventy years. Among these soldiers was Lieutenant Commander Harry Dorman who volunteered with the United States Naval District (UNITAS) in Spain as an officer cadet. When he returned home after enlisting in 1917 he found himself commanding a small unit called “the Beach Patrol Squadron One Hundred and Eighteenth” stationed at Point Loma. Dorman quickly proved himself an effective leader by leading his men against piracy off Catalina Island; this experience gave him insight into how important it was for America’s coastal communities to have a strong coastline defense force. In 1922 Dorman left UNITAS and joined the Coast Guard as a lieutenant commander; his new assignment would be working closely with other agencies such as Customs Service and US Secret Service to protect America's ports from crimesters looking for profit from enemy warships or supplies passing through port towns on their way into or out of war zones! In 1925 Captain George Waddell took command of USCGC Constellation which had been converted into a coastal guard ship; under Waddell's guidance Constellation quickly become one ofSouth Gate's most popular assets due its ability to deploy quickly onto any type of beach or shoreline situation; she also pioneered methods for using radios equipment on board vessels so that officers could communicate with headquarters more effectively during emergency situations! This success led Capt Waddell to ask President Franklin D Roosevelt if he could be given command of USS Constitution (CV-16) which had been decommissioned after serving honorably in World War II; FDR agreed and appointed Capt Waddell commanding officer on April 1st 1945! The first mention of South Gate was in 1848 when it was called "Cheyenne". The name changes again in 1876 when it becomes "Southgate" due to influence from General James K. Polk's visit there that year. In 1908, South Gate had a post office with ZIP code 91701 and its name changed back to Cheyenne again because mail delivery became available only through Riverside. The current incarnation as a town began when the city of Riverside merged with neighboring communities including South gate on December 1, 1957. At that time, all residents within Riverside were amalgamated into one municipality so that resources could be better devoted to local services rather than being dispersed throughout several separate municipalities. Southgate has experienced many growths over its history; for instance during World War II it grew rapidly due to military uses such as manufacturing munitions and armored vehicles; however after the war ended it slowly declined until experiencing another growth spurt in the late 1960s which led to incorporation as an incorporated village in 1972 under then-mayor Gary Encinia. In recent years, though much slower than other surrounding communities statewide (such as Irvine or Ontario), Southgate has seen steady increase in population density thanks largely to annexation by nearby cities such as Corona and Northridge since those cities have begun annexing adjacent unincorporated areas making up what used once been rural land within their boundaries - giving neighborhoods like Heritage Place/Riverside Heights/Aliso Viejo Cove Park closer proximity now than ever before to major city amenities while still maintaining some degree of privacy (although annexation requests are still somewhat common).

South Gate, California is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 25,872 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in San Bernardino County after Redding. South Gate is located on the edge of downtown San Bernardino and has a small downtown area surrounded by large housing developments. The first settlers to what would become South Gate were farmers who arrived in 1873. In 1875, General John Tittle moved his family from Encino to Southgate and started a tannery there. The name "Southgate" came about because of the location on Third Street between Vine and Masonic Roads which served as their gate to prevent Indian traders from entering or leaving the town during its early years. In 1907, an oil rig named "Cannonball" sank off of southern Coast Range beach near South Gate after hitting rocks with her starboard propeller while offshore en route from Anadarko Petroleum Company's drilling site onshore. All but one crewmember were lost when their lifeboats did not arrive in time and all those remaining on board are said to have died of dehydration or heatstroke due to high levels of salt water inside the hulls after emerging alive only four days later without any survivors ashore On July 7, 1969 Ulysses S.
