On September 9, 1886, South Gate coffee farmer and roaster Isaac Meiners started his own small business in a small lot on the corner of First and Robertson Streets. The first beans were roasted and ground by Meiners himself. By 1890, he had opened a second roast shop on Main Street. South Gate's history is reflective of the coffee industry as a whole; it has seen many changes over the years, including growth in production due to advances in technology. In recent decades, however, South Gate has been steady in its quality products and operations. In the early 1800s, South Gate was a small town in southern California. It was known for its coffee beans and for being one of the first places in America to grow coffee. The area now known as South Gate was founded by Spanish colonists in 1769. The Coffee Belt is an area near South Gate that is famous for its coffee production.
South Gate is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 21,724 at the 2010 census. South Gate is a commercial and industrial center located on the east side of Interstate 5 between Costa Mesa and Irvine. It is known for its agricultural produce, including oranges, grapes, cereal crops, and almonds. The first permanent settler in what became South Gate was Captain James Cook who sailed around Cape Horn in 1769-70 on his way to Tahiti. Cook's men built a cabin on anual clearing near present day PCH (I-5) and called it "Cook's Point". A post office was established at "Cook's Point" in 1872, and remained open until 1893 when it was moved to downtown South Gate. The area that now makes up South Gate was originally part of Temescal Creek Valley where agriculture took hold starting about 1850 as settlers began moving into this region from southern California. The first citrus orchards were established along Temescal Creek by 1875; south of today’s I-5 there are still many Oranges trees remaining from those early days! In 1886 Pacific Gas & Electric Company laid out a linesheet connecting Anaheim eastward to San Diego through Temescal Creek Valley – one of the first electricroads in America! This line would later become Southern Pacific Railway which built their mainline through Temescal Valley until they abandoned it all north of Irvine in 1960 due to environmental concerns about chemical use there! In 1915 two brothers named Harry Fenton purchased some land east of current day PCH (I-5) which included what would become Southgate; their intent being to establish a small community for farmers surrounding their orchard and vineyards. From 1916 until 1918 construction began on what is now North Park Drive which connected Temescal Canyon with town proper; this parkland currently occupies much of the eastern edge of present day Southgate City Limits! Most people living near these prime agricultural areas during those years didn't even know there existed such thing as Southgate – only after World War II did development really pick up around here thanks largely to military buildups throughout Orange County!!! In 1947 SGB merged with neighboring Seal Beach resulting in creation of Seal Beach Village adjacent to SGB property line!!! Today’s Seal Beach Village hugs both sides of I-5 just north of US 101KKK within City Limits!!!!! Finally we come full circle back home…..SouthGate has always been home since Colonial times…..Thank you 🙂

South Gate, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 28,715 at the 2010 census. South Gate is located on the border of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. It is adjacent to Interstate 10 and has a stop on the Victorville Freeway nearby. The city was founded in 1887 by Nicholas Roosevelt as South Gate Station on Railroad Avenue south of today's cordoned-off area north of I-10 for goods arriving from Southern California. In 1912, Southgate was incorporated as a town with a population of 5,000 people. In 1916, it changed its name to Southgate Village to honor General Pershing's visit there that year. On November 9, 1936, after years of petitioning by local citizens and an act by the State Assembly (by then it known as the State Journal), General Pershing officially designated South Gate an "international military camp" which included barracks for American troops stationed there during World War II under Commander in Chief MacArthur. In 1951 when ZIP code 95304 became part of Riverside County South Gate continued to be governed by City Council until 1975 when Mayor Edward Jablonski transformed it into a non-partisan township with mayor/council form of government effective January 1st 1977 under provisions set forth in Proposition 14 (the first statewide ballot measure effectuating major changes in 40 years since statehood). As township status did not expire until 1984--five years after voters approved proposition 22 designating Northridge as the new city limits--Southgate remains one of only two U.S."municipalities" (along with Menlo Park) still having this form of government even though its entire land area has been annexed or reincorporated into other municipalities multiple times over the last four decades including once again becoming part of Riverside County as late as 2018 while remaining municipally chartered as "Southgate Township", still governing all aspects Church Street corridor between I-10/Riverside Boulevard eastward and Sunrise Boulevard westward including all unincorporated portions within those boundaries!
South Gate is located in Los Angeles County, California and is the southernmost city on the Harbor Freight Railway. The first white person to live in South Gate was Alexander Graham Bell, who founded a tollroad called the Pacific Electric Railway here in 1885. South Gate was incorporated as a city in 1912. It became an enclave of Los Angeles when Riverside County was created from parts of Southern California.
