Military gift history in South Gate, California began with the creation of the first military post in Southern California by General Mariano Wolff in 1834. The Santa Ana Battalion was founded at this location and served as a garrison for the Mexican-American War. In 1846, Rancho San Bernardino was granted to Captain James Wolk and his family, who named it after their father, Baron de Rothschild. This grant also included 4 square miles of land that would later become South Gate. In 1847, Captain Wolk donated another piece of land to the Santa Ana Battalion for their barracks and artillery range. In 1850, United States Marines were stationed at Rancho San Bernardino during The Mexican-American War. On December 1st of that year, Commodore John Davenport ordered USS Sacramento to enter Stockton Harbor so that US Marines could disembark and fight on shore against Mexican forces ashore. Upon disembarking their ship, the Marines formed line along Fremont Street and marched into town to take possession of their barracks which had been built on top of a old adobe building known as “The Castle” (now part of City Hall). The Marines remained here until February 15th when they sailed back out to sea under cover of darkness following an engagement with Mexican troops off Point Loma near San Diego Bay In 1861-1862 Confederate forces encampment was located on properties now occupied by Town Park and University Circle in South Gate On October 14th 1862 Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia A Southerners ballgame took place between Santa Clara County Cricket Club (later UC Davis) v Northern Pacific Railroad team at Stanford Stadium on April 8th 1912 which ended in a 10–2 victory for Santa Clara County

South Gate is a small town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 1,031 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of San Bernardino Valley and shares borders with Ontario to the north, Loma Linda University to the east and Hesperia to the south. The first people who lived in what is now South Gate were native agrarians who hunted deer and bear. They built their homes around a large fire that they used as an oven or forge for making tools, weapons and blankets from animal hides. By 1847, Englishman John Sutter had founded the town of Southgate on land he acquired from Mexico in 1846 following his Kinetic Expedition through central California’s Mono Lake region. Sutter named it after himself because he found a gate in his travels near where he later built his adobe mission called “Gate” Mission still stands today on Pico Boulevard just south of Interstate 5 (I-5). In 1862, citizens of Los Angeles petitioned Governor George Kittley to annex South Gate as part of Los Angeles County because they thought annexation would increase wealth and development opportunities for the community. On July 15th 1861, Kittley approved by proclamation an ordinance annexing South Gate to Los Angeles County In compliance with this request by local inhabitants who desired incorporation into a larger county which would have included all of Southern California including Pasadena and other towns located along what is now I-10/I-15 corridor. The townships were set off from San Bernardino County according to their location on both sides of I-10/I-15 between Pomona (to its west) and Claremont (to its east), thus guaranteeing that each township would maintain its own unique character even though they might be within easy reach of one another when needed for commerce or services such as Road shows or exhibitions taking place in southern California during these times period! During this time period there was significant growth within South Gate Township due largely to increased demand by residents for goods manufactured outwest due primarily to railroad construction extending into new territory across valleys then being explored for oil reserves potential discoveries made during gold rushes occurring throughout much of eastern North America culminating with discovery at Comanche WellsFields in 1858 less than 10 miles southeast of present day Midway City which led quickly develop into one of largest strikes everoccurring in American history resulting in over 2 million pounds sterling worth production! On October 6th 1903 when voters turned out in force at their polls representing all ten townships voting against Measure B creating Riverside suburban sprawl known today as La Crescenta Town Center directly adjacent Fremont annexed neighboring Eastvale Village forming what we know today as Willowbrook Village

South Gate is a community located in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded in 1870 by Mexican American landowners and settlers. The population of South Gate at the time of its incorporation was 1,020 people. It has since grown to over 14,000 residents. The first people to live in what is now South Gate were the Pueblo Indians. They built their homes on the banks of the San Gabriel River. In 1871, an Anglo-Mexican immigrant named Fernando de la Hoz purchased land near the current intersection of Alma Street and Richards Road from the Pueblo Indian tribe. de la Hoz called his new community "South Gate." He intended it as a place for Spanish-speaking Americans to live and he named his street after one of Mexico's most important cities, Santa Fe (now Albuquerque). In 1892, South Gate became part of the City of Los Angeles when that city was created from portions of several previous municipalities including San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. At that time, Los Angeles had a population of just over 100,000 people! South Gate continued to grow during its early years as a result of its close relationship with Los Angeles and its easy access to jobs in downtown Los Angeles. In 1924, following passage through Congress by Representative John Fenton (D-CA), Proposition 8 became law as part of changes made to California's Constitution following World War II. This amendment defined marriage as being between one man and one woman only. As a result, many Angelenos who had married outside their state or country were forced to move away from their homes in order to find new opportunities within California’s growing gay population. As Southern Californians began moving back into older communities such as Chinatown or Little Tokyo after leaving LA during this era for reasons such as job availability or political correctness considerations – primarily among young professionals – Southgate quickly regained some lost ground; however much still remained unknown about this largely African American community until research began onsite in 1990 by then Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa under then UAW Local Union No.(LAF) President Donald Wuerl’s leadership which culminated with development plans announced in 1992 known collectively asVillaraigosa Park! Today there are many businesses within our walls: small businesses have been replaced by larger chains because they can afford it now while also remaining open late into the night; mom & pop stores remain but more often operate out-of-hours; restaurants serve Chinese takeout at all hours long while wine bars stay open late; smaller grocery stores continue up until 10pm while larger store owners close earlier so they can offer more variety at lower prices “All these business types have kept alive not only because they are able to survive on tips but because they have been able to make money offSundays too” said Tony Tosti Owner/ manager at The Dog House bar
On November 5, 1847, the Mexican-American War ended with the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty ceded all land east of the river Bravo to Mexico, including South Gate. This area became part of California.
