However, this changed when Yahoo! Inc.'s purchase of Google Earth Inc., which had land contiguous with both Reno and Sparks but not within any incorporated municipality boundaries increased traffic congestion around downtown San Jose (Moses 2006). As a result of this increase in nearby development there has been discussion among local planners about whether or not to annex Sanford/Reno Valley as part ofSouthLakeTahoe (Fletcher et al.) There are several benefits associated with annexing Sanford/Reno Valley: first it would provide space for new businesses and second it would give us access to Highway 395 which skirts most directly around the valley floor creating some commuting opportunities unavailable from otherpartsofthecity (Fletcher et al.). Finally it would allow us access to state funding that we currently use for transportation projects withinCityofSanJose In response to these proposed changes in community demographics one group formed called "Community For Change" which aimed to bring together all stakeholders interested in making SouthLakeTahoea better place through activities such as block partyzoning meetings where citizens could voice their concerns directlyto elected officials; website creation; monthly open house events featuring guest speakers from different fields relevanttothecommunity; advocatingfor changethroughoutthecity;andhostingforumsthruoutthesouthlaketahoeschool district
