The South Pasadena Army Reserve battalion deployed in support of Operation Neptune's Spear, during the Afghanistan War. The battalion was mobilized on October 1, 2009 and arrived in Afghanistan on November 3, 2009. They were first assigned to Brigade Combat Team 1st Cavalry Division located at Fort Hood, Texas before being transferred to Brigade Combat Team 6th Infantry Regiment located at Laghmanabad Air Base, Afghanistan. On January 18, 2010 the battalion was redesignated as Battalion 7th Infantry Regiment and relocated to Kandahar Province. On May 24, 2010 the Battalion was again mobilized and sent to Baghdad forOperation Iraqi Freedom. The battalion arrived on June 2 and remained until September 30 when they returned home after completing their tour of duty in Iraq. In early 2011 the Battalion deployed once again to Afghanistan for Operation Noble Eagle which lasted from December 2-January 14th. During this deployment they served as part of Task Force Hammer which targeted Taliban forces near Logar Province. In late 2011 the Battalion redeployed back home to Southern California where they will remain through 2013 serving with various task forces across Southern California including Santa Ana County Sheriff's Department detachment (Joint Terrorism Task Force), Pacific Gas & Electric Company detachment (Anti-Terrorism Enforcement Strike Force) and United States Border Patrol detachment (United States Customs Inspection Service).

South Pasadena is a small town in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 16,890 at the 2010 census. South Pasadena is located on the border of eastern Pasadena and western Midtown Los Angeles. It has a land area of about 0.6 square miles (1 km²). The ZIP code for South Pasadena is 81801. The first people to live in what is now South Pasadena were two brothers, Hiram and Perry Hughes, who founded a ranch there in 1871. They named their ranch "Pasadena" after themselves – they had moved from New York City to become farmers there in 1849. In 1898, when Southern Pacific Railway built its line through southern Los Angeles County, it chose to build its line through Pasadenawood instead of downtown Los Angeles because it wanted more space for its tracks and trains yards in an agricultural area with limited infrastructure. In early 1909, Clarence Dillingham bought land east of present-day Old Pasadena from Hiram Hughes for $2 million dollars ($ as of 2019). Dillingham planned to build a new city called Riverside on the site and name it after his wife's family name – he had married her sister Alice Palmer Dillingham while she was living at home with her parents after they divorced from their first marriage. However, due to opposition by residents of eastern Pasadena who felt that Riverside would compete with their community's growth, Dillingham abandoned Riverside in 1911 and built what is today known as North Hollywood instead (). In 1912 Jerald Czarnecki purchased some property northeast of North Hollywood from Harry Cohn which became known as Cimarron Heights () After World War II many young people moved into nearby Watts but eventually most everyone left because of crime rates there
