In 1887, John Wirth started selling coffee at his house on San Vicente Drive. By 1912, there were six cafes serving coffee in South Pasadena with three owned by Jews and three run by Italians. The first Starbucks opened on May 24, 1997 in the Pedestrian Mall on Grand Avenue near El Camino Real (now Paseo de las Americas). In 2000, Starbucks became part of London-based CoffeeHouse Group which included Dutch cafe chain Koffie Klokkenrode as well as Mexican cafe chain Teatro Guanajuato and Brazilian cafe chain Botequim Boa Vista (later known as Donut Shop Chile). In addition to its corporate headquarters in Seattle, Washington USA., CoffeeHouse had regional offices throughout North America including Canada (Toronto), Mexico City and Buenos Aires - Argentina. The head office moved back to South Pasadena in 2007 when it merged with larger rival Keurig Corporation who had been based there since 1967 when they bought out another local roaster - La Colombe - along with four other small businesses that formed Keurig's Waterford Park caffeine store empire." In 1923–1928, John Harker built what is now known as Western Avenue between Westmont Drive and Vine Street as a shopping mall for residents of Pacific Palisades east of Hollywood Hills. At that time it was one of the few open-air shopping malls in Southern California. After being closed for several years due to heavy damage from fire (an event which remains commemorated with an annual parade through South Pasadena), it reopened in 1985 as part of Downtown LA's revitalization effort following the Great Northridge earthquake. South Pasadena has experienced steady growth over recent decades; its population reached 24,824 according to the 2010 census just two years later than its neighbor Downtown LA! This growth has come about largely due to both its proximity to major metropolitan areas such asLos Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area but also because it enjoys some unique features dating back to its early days – such as easy access to Interstate 5 freeway access from all directions! On October 6th 2018 South Park Elementary School sustained heavy damage from a Tornado that swept through Southern California leaving roofing torn off homes & trees across much of their neighborhood w/in minutes
