South San Francisco, California is a city located in San Francisco County, California. The population was 71,253 as of 2010[1]. The City Council has been democratized since the late 1990s and the Mayor is now an elected position with no term limits. South San Francisco is a mixed-use neighborhood that includes some high-rise buildings and older warehouses. It was founded by Mission Bay farmers in 1847 as part of the Rancho de las Pulgas Mexican land grant. The early days of South San Francisco were difficult because the area was part of Mexico and there was fighting over control of what would become SouthSanFernando County and even more so, over who could build things like churches or schools on these acres. However, through hard work and determination from many people including Don Miguel De la Vega y Uribe (the founder of Jardin Botánico), Juan Bautista Alvarado (founder of Alameda Bank) and others, SouthSanFernando became one of the most prosperous areas in Northern California during this time period. In 1881, US Senator Edwin Stanton visited South San Francisco to promote American settlement in Northern California after his election as Presidentiallyappointed Commissioner for Conquest Of Mexico Series III. After hearing about how well things were going for pioneers living in various parts of Northern California he decided to move westward himself and invest money into what would become known as “The Great Western Railroad” which linked Sacramento to Los Angeles through Southern Californiaby way southwesterly route instead of east–west like other railways at that time. This project failed because investors did not want to go near gold country but rather continue making money off resources like timber etc., but it marked the beginningof what would be called “The Gold Rush” era in North America where people started pouring into this new region looking for greener pastures than those found down Under. After years ol investment failures and economic recession rampant throughout much OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA due largely to OVERPRICING OF PRODUCTS AND THE FALLOUT OF THE GOLD RUSH IN 1849 SAN FRANCISCO REALIZED THAT IT NEED TO BE MORE POLICE PROTECTIVE AGAINST ILLEGAL BUSINESSES OPERATING OUT OF HERITAGE STRUCTURES LIKE GOLDFIRE MOUNTAIN LODGE #4 WHERE PREVIOUS PRESIDENT LINCOLN AUTHORIZED A TERRORIST ATTACK ON JULY 4TH 1851 WHICH LEFT 22 PEOPLE DEAD INCLUDING 11 MEN WHO WERE ORCHID ERECTORS FROM SOUTHEAST LOS ANGELES AT THAT TIME AFTER MUCH CONSULTATION WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND LOCAL COUNCIL MEMBERS THEY PASSED A RESOLUTION SAYING THAT SAINT PETER'S CHURCH WAS NOT AUTHORIZED TO USE CITY HALL SO LONG AS IT DIDN'T ACCEPT CANONICAL DOCUMENTS WRITTEN BY JUAN BAUTISTAS ALVARADO BEFORE HIS DEATH IN 1865. THIS RESOLUTION SIGNIFICANTLY DESTROYED ANY INTEREST IN CLAIMING SOVEREIGNTY OVER SAINT PEGGY'S CHURCH AGAIN TOPHANDLING ALL OTHER RELIGIONS UPON THESE EARLIER SETBACKS.
