For many years after that, San Diego County belonged to Mexico and there was no military presence in the area. The American Revolution began several months later and by late November 17, 1847, an American company had been organized under the command of Captain John Cranch to purchase land at Rancho Viejo for $5 per acre. The land became known as Camp Grant because it lay near present-day downtown Stanton. In March 1850 Colonel James Fenton acquired 1/2 mile of beachfront property adjacent to Camp Grant for $10 per acre which he named Yerba Buena Cove after his wife’s favorite flower, yerbaina (a type of jasmine). In 1861 all military activity ceased in California following the outbreak of hostilities between Confederate States of America (CSA) andthe Union army known as “the Civil War” On October 13th 1870 a detachment from Company H 8th Infantry Regiment docked at Yerba Buena Cove for duty aboard USS Constitution . After disembarking their horses they formed up along Main Street near Quincey Hall before marching off towards Point Lobos where they were met by Native Americans who had earlier gathered there to observe proceedings onboard ship On December 7th 1870 Commodore Perry sailed into Stockton Bay with his flagship USS Constitution arriving just after sunset local time . While anchored outside Spanishtown Enterprise learned that war had commenced between United States forces under General Ulysses S Grant and Confederate forces commanded by Admiral Richmond K. Stanton is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield–Chico–Redding Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first post office in Stanton was established on July 16, 1875. The name of the town came from George Stanton, who donated land for the town site. A store and hotel were built in Stanton by 1879 and 1886 respectively. In 1911 a school was built and named after Mrs. Edwin Marden (1858-1937). Mrs. Marden had been an important figure in early suffrage activism in California. She also worked to promote agriculture in the area and helped to create many local industries such as cheese making and printing presses. In 1925, two brothers founded Aero-Labs Incorporated which manufactured airships; one of these airships became known as "Albatross". In 1932, Albatross Airways merged with Air America Inc., creating an airline that would later become World War II's largest and most successful strategic bomber force; Albatross Airlines remains headquartered there today as part of American Airlines Group parent company American Airlines Co.. In 1933, Stanton voters passed a resolution designating their downtown block of Main Street as the "George Hagerty Plaza" in honor of then-UCLA football coach George Hagerty (1901-1985).
