The Stockton Air Force Base is home to the California Air National Guard's 126th Airlift Wing. The wing was organized on 18 September 1946 as the 123d Bombardment Wing, flying Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter planes. It was redesignated the 126th Airlift Wing on 1 October 1948 and activated at Stockton. As part of the California Air National Guard's reorganization in 1960, it became a subordinate command of Regional Air Command (RAC). On 15 December 1966, RAC's 10th Tactical Fighter Wing assumed control of the 123d Bombardment Wing from its parent command at Los Angeles AFB. In 1974, when Headquarters USAF assumed direct operational control of all United States Aerospace Forces commands under General Maxwell Taylor, the 126th Airlift Wing became an element of Ninth Air Force under headquarterscommand. Inactivated on 15 March 1978 with its last P-38s retiring from service. The wing's mission was changed to support USAF operations in western Europe and Africa through airlift missions using C-141 Starlighters and KC-135 Stratotankers; however this ended in 1990 with closure of RAF Mildenhall after 44 years of operation as part of US European military dissolution. On 3 November 1991, the 136th Rescue Squadron activated at Stockton AFB to provide humanitarian assistance during Operation Desert Storm by transporting wounded soldiers back across country from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait City; however this also ended after one deployment due to budget cuts within Californian Defense Forces (CDF) which had been created following unification of most U.S armed forces into single organization following World War II ending hostilities between America and Great Britain precipitating war against Iraq in 1988 - these reductions were largely self-imposed by newly elected governor Gray Davis who saw CDF as a wasteful relic from an earlier time when local militias had been used extensively throughout region during World War II; nevertheless effective operator until 1995 when CDF disbanded without any survivors or assets remaining stationed at Stockton AFB - finally relinquishing all authority over airspace over central California to federally funded National Aeronauticsand Space Administration since that agency assumed full responsibility for nation's airspace following establishment of Federal Aviation Administration in 1938 - finally ending more than 50 years of active USAF presence hereabouts!

The Stockton Air Force Base gift history can be traced back to 1942. The base was first established as the California Republic Airport, and it was during this time that the United StatesAAF were tasked with providing air support for local forces in World War II. In 1945, the airport was renamed Stockton Army Air Field after General James M. Stockton, who had played a significant role in leading the country through its wartime effort. The base continued to serve as an active military facility until January 1, 1947 when it became part of the newly created California Air National Guard. It wasn't until 1978 that the government sold off all of Stockton's assets and transferred it to the City of Stockton. Since then, various donations have been made by members of the community in order to maintain and improve aspects of AFB property such as visitor centers and sporting fields.
Stockton, California is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 154,651 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1849 and named for Stockton, England. It became an incorporated city on July 15, 1914. The history of Stockton goes back to 1849 when the first settlers arrived in what is now Contra Costa County. They were led by Capt. John Cranch and Capt. George Watts from San Francisco because they believed that there would be a gold rush hereabouts. Over time various other settlements were established throughout the county including Richmond (1872), Antioch (1902), South San Francisco (1906), Pleasanton (1910) and Fremont (1920). A post office called Stockton was established at the junction of State Route 36 and Spanish Road in 1851. The original town site changed hands several times until it finally acquired its current location near present-day Highway 120 on December 12, 1854 by purchase from Drury & Hays merchants JF Giannini and FH Herndon. The name "Stockton" originated with a donation of land to the town by Major James Sutter during his stay in China as part of his explorations of new territory over which he had jurisdiction as governor of De Leon County (). The first store opened in what is now downtown Stockton on March 25, 1856; it was run by Mr. Norton from a small shack near Mission Boulevard and Market Street. By 1870 there were six stores operating out of a total population of 508 residents; this number increased to 10 by 1880 due to growth in the nearby Central Valley farming economy caused by irrigation projects authorized by Govird Benjamin Franklin Chafee (). In 1905–7 two new large hotels were built: one on First Street between I-580/SR 214 and US 101/SR 238 south of downtown known as the Cotton Club and another north along I-580/SR 214 between Huntington Drive east of Donatello Avenue Cemetery () which still stands today as Hotel Donatello (). At this time also began significant growth within the community due to contributions from area entrepreneurs such as Wm Hite (), Frank Norris (), Sam Laughlin (), Harry Chandler ()and others who invested in businesses such as meatpacking plants, breweries, electricity providers etc.; these companies remain important componentsofthe local economy to this day.. In 1916 Mayor John Watson negotiated passage through City Council Bill No 5792 creating Municipal Airport serving both civil aviation purposes only with no commercial passenger service provided until 1978 when Air America started operations providing scheduled services connecting Stockton with Sacramento via Emeryville Airport

Stockton is a city in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 382,512 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of San Joaquin County and has been since 1848. Stockton's economy depends on agriculture, manufacturing and trade. The first Europeans to explore this area were Spanish fur traders who traveled through the area in 16is0-2O4. They named the area "La Paz" after their capital in Mexico City. In 1821, Mexican governor Manuel Micheltorena granted land to James Fergusson for an irrigation project that would help improve soil quality around Stockton and provide food for settlers in what is now Contra Costa County. The town was founded by Captain George Hayward on October 25, 1847 following his return from a failed attempt to build a masonry fort at the present-day site of downtown Stockton. The first store was built on Main Street in 1850 by Wm. Hilty & Bros.. In 1852, local citizens raised money to buy land east of Sacramento River for Rancho Tioga; this allowed them to start cattle ranching and farming there until1896 when they sold it all off to Buena Vista Land Company which owned it until 1918 when it became part of Alameda County
