The Stockton Army National Guard has been deployed to various locations throughout the years, including Stockton, California. The unit's history can be traced back to 1921 when soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 9th Regiment (San Joaquin Valley), San Francisco Infantry were called to help with the war in Europe. After World War II ended, the battalion was re-raised and in 1951 it relocated to Stockton where it became part of the California National Guard. In 1957, the battalion was again activated and moved to Phoenixville, Pennsylvania where it served as an infantry battalion until 1992. In 1993, the battalion relocated back to Stockton and currently maintains a detachment at Fort Sam Houston Museum located in downtown Salt Lake City. In recent years there have been multiple deployments for members of the unit. 2006 sawployment to Afghanistan; this time as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. As part of this deployment members served as interpreters for local Afghans and also helped train Afghan police forces. The City of Stockton was founded by settlers from San Francisco on November 8, 1853. It became an incorporated city on January 25, 1870. Stockton has been named one of the most livable cities in America and it ranks first in the Southwest region for job growth over the past decade according to Forbes Magazine's "Best Cities to Live In." The history of Stockton goes back before it even became a town! A group of pioneers journeyed down Camino Real from Sacramento in 1851-52 looking for a new home after years of fruitless exploration through what is now Nevada and Oregon. On October 15th 1850 they found their new community when they founded Fort Pointe just east of present day downtown Stockton. This fort served as both military and civilian headquarters until 1853 when it was abandoned due to lack of ammunition and funding. On February 14th 1853 James Folsom donated land north ofpresent day downtown for the founding of what would become known as "Folsom Street". The name change came about because at that time there were no streets running south or north like today's streets in most major U.S cities and instead each block consisted onlyof dirt roads leading to individual homes or businesses. Today you can still see some evidence of this original layout including an unpaved road near State Route 24 which leads directly into downtown from Folsom Street! So much has changed since then that it’s hard to keep up with all the events that have occurred within our city limits! However here are five important moments that will stay with us forever: 1) On December 7th 1861 President Abraham Lincoln made his famous “First Executive Order” which ordered all citizens to be registered with local government agencies within four days or face martial law. This order helped spur development within our city as people startedregistering with services such as firemen, police officers, etc….. insuring that future mayors could plan betterfuture plans without worrying about potential resistance from angry citizens! 2) On July 4th 1951 Mayor Raymond Chandler announced plans for construction of Interstate 80 between Sacramento and San Jose which would greatly impact our community; this announcement led to increased business activity along Folsom Street due to people tryingto figure out how they would get around traffic congestion caused by the proposed highway! 3) On January 20th 1959 Mayor Art Agostini announced plans for Measure T which would create more affordable housing opportunities throughout our city; this measure helped lead to increased development along Post Road between Second Avenue andmasculine Boulevard creating many high-rise buildings today! 4) Finally on May 1st 1969 Mayor George Norris declared an emergency dueto riots taking place throughout Greater Los Angeles following Watts Rebellion – this declaration allowed search warrants/arrests proceed more freely within OurCity Limits allowing businesses more latitude in operations while still protecting civil rights demonstrators!!!
