The history of the Stockton, California Army National Guard began in 1885 with a group of citizens who wanted to raise an army for protection. The first unit was organized and raised in Stockton under the command of Captain George T. Young. The men from Stockton served in various military campaigns throughout the early years, but it was during World War I that their services truly came to life. By 1918, the Stockton Army National Guard had grown to over 1,000 soldiers and women. After the war ended, many members of the armed forces decided to stay in California because of its economy andrelative lack of military service requirements. In 1949, the state legislature passed a bill authorizing the formation of a regiment within the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Reserve Unit as part of an effort to improveonthe morale and readiness of local law enforcement officers. This new regiment became known asthe Sacramento County Sheriffs' memorial battalion (CCCMB). In 1954, Govt approved passage by Assembly Bill No. 592 creating two infantry regiments withinthe San Francisco Bay Area Defense Command (BADC), one brigade sized at 1,500 troops and one battalion sized at 2,500 troops. On July 4th 1956 these two brigades were consolidated intoone regiment under Lt Governor John Waddell’s command which is still called today “The Sacramento County Sheriffs Memorial Battalion”

The Stockton Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to 1846. The unit was activated as the 1st Battalion, Stockton Riflemen on November 3rd, 1846. The battalion served in various engagements throughout California during the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. On October 2nd, 1920, the battalion was redesignated as the 2d Battalion, Stockton Riflemen and assigned to the newly created 4th Infantry Division. In WWII,the battalion served in Occupation Japan and Germany before being mobilized for World War II on August 15th, 1941. The battalion fought in both World Wars and earned a reputation for its bravery and heroism. After the war, the battalion was retitled as the 3d Battalion (Stockton), California Army National Guard at Camp Pendleton. The unit participated in numerous activities includingerved as an infantry brigade reserve component of I Corps during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan from 2009-2013;andwas deployed to Iraq from January – April 2014 as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Support Element III which included elements supporting United States Central Command's effort against ISIL militants

The first permanent European settlement in what would become Stockton was made by Father Francisco Xavier Cuevas during his 1789 mission to found missions in central California. After years of development by individuals, families and groups such as Rancho Santiago de Atascadero & Co., founded by José Joaquín Cabeza de Vaca y Costilla (1763-1812), it became an incorporated town on April 15, 1868 when Mission Santa Clara was completed nearby. The early days of Stockton were difficult for many reasons including lack of water resources, limited transportation options and an inhospitable climate which made agriculture unfeasible. However progress was made through partnerships with local businesses and citizens who worked together to make improvements such as electrical wiring for businesses and streetlights throughout the community; a public works project that created new streetscape features that still can be seen today; incorporation into a larger city government;and growth through annexation of neighboring communities which brought jobs, housing developments and other benefits to residents. During World War II, stocks were used as part of food production for troops stationed overseas but they also became an important part of local economy due to their value as currency assets earned from exports such as citrus fruit exports during wartime shortages caused by importation restrictions placed on America’s allies under lend-lease programs enacted after Pearl Harbor . When war ended following Victory Through Strength speech delivered by President Franklin D Roosevelt on January 21945 , demand for stocks plummeted resulting in prices dropping 50% or more over six months leading up to re-opening of markets which led to increased values for stocks again starting in 1946 however this time profits generated went into bonuses rather than reinvestment back into companies creating another period where stock prices rose rapidly but without benefit to employees or consumers
