Stockton is a city in the U.S. state of California, located on the San Joaquin River. It is one of the most populous cities in California, with an estimated population of over 150,000 in 2014. The City of Stockton was founded by Captain Gabriel García Márquez on March 24, 1847 as Rancho Dolores de Pacheco, named for José Dolores Pacheco and his wife Mariana Castro. Stockton became a city on December 3, 1851 when it was incorporated as part of Donner Party Settlement. The original inhabitants of what would become Stockton were Native American: the Jurok people who live today near where Mission Bay meets the river. Spanish traders and explorers discovered this area during their expeditions in 1799 and 1800. The first permanent settler was Manuel Nieto, who built his adobe hut at what is now Main Street and East Broadway in 1827. In 1830–1831 Mexican soldiers used Rancho Dolores de Pacheco to search for General Antonio López de Santa Anna's army retreating from Mexico City after its defeat at Buenavista against Mexican forces under Acosta y Gasset. A subsequent survey found that two-thirds of the land within present-day Stockton had Notch Peak (now east side streets Main and Herald) as its highest point; so much so that notarial notices issued around this time proclaimed that "the Heights above mentioned are tracts open to sale." The first post office was established at Dolores Creek near present-day Market Square on January 6, 1835; it moved to its current location on October 14th, 1850 when Stocksville became a city too). In 1847 Captain Gabriel García Márquez purchased 2 acres (8 ha) south of Main Street from José Dolores Pacheco for $300 (). Two years later he erected a hut made out of logs with ovens inside to bake bread () for himself and his family members starting what would be known as "García's Farm". With support from friends he soon began purchasing additional land adjoining Pacheco's holdings including some extending into Fremont County which he sold between 1850 and 1861 for $10 per acre ($ today). By 1865 García had acquired 7 square miles (20 km²) northward extending into Contra Costa County (). He continued to improve his holdings until he boughtadding an extra 5 square miles (.16 km²) in 1888 (). After years struggles against competition from other developers throughout Northern California (), García's farm finally came into production yielding high profits thanks largely to raised prices for wheat exported to Europe (). His farmstead still stands today across East Broadway from Donner Avenue just south of I-580 exit 12A drive (). Today Northridge Elementary School is located adjacent to Garcia Farms Road next door off Hwy 580 exit 12A drive . Captain Gabriel García Márquez died suddenly at age 54 while traveling through Nevada desert November 25th 1966 leaving behind many unfinished business including having planned community called Los Palacios located near Truckee Meadows National Monument northeast corner Interstate 5 interchange between I-5 mainline & US 395 southwest corner Highway 395

Stockton, California is located in the Central Valley of California. The city was founded on October 29, 1848 by George Washington Goodwin and his wife Anna Maria Goodwin. At that time, the area was part of Mexico and it was not until after the Mexican–American War that Stockton became a U.S. territory. It was named for George Stockton, who had fought in the war as a lieutenant in Company K of the 1st Battalion Sacramento Infantry Regiment. The city’s first post office opened in 1850 and its first store closed in 1853 because there were no buyers for goods delivered to Stockton by horse and wagon. In 1865, local resident John Sutter founded the UC Berkeley campus here which eventually led to broader development over time including an increase in industry as well as population growth which has led to numerous architectural achievements over time including City Hall (1890), First National Bank (1910), Chowchilla High School (1915) and various other municipal buildings across town such as City College (1892), Mission San Francisco de Asís (1897), and United States Post Office (1914). The history of Stockton can be traced back to at least 1848 when two families decided to move from Northern California into what would become today’s Central Valley – George Washington Goodwin and Anna Maria Goodwin. At that time, most of what is now central California was part of Mexico due to Santa Catalina Island being seized during the Mexican- American War even though it ultimately gained independence from Mexico following that conflict. However, within months of each other, both families had arrived in town with their new homesteads just south of present day University Avenue on what would become known as “Goodwin Park” today. It wasn’t until February 3rd of 1849 when Emperor Agustín de Iturbide declared all areas east of Bakersfield under Spanish control henceforth known as Alta Californía meaning “Upper California” despite being administered by Mexico due to its status as a co-equal partner with Spain under Article II section 8 thereofof the Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended hostilities between those nations following their war for independence from Spain. Consequently, George Washington Goodwinand AnnaMariaGoodwin were among many early settlers who moved into what would become Stockton courtesy of this decision made by Mexican authorities pursuant to said treaty ruling thus fulfilling one half of America’s promise made during its founding days: To provide shelter for migrating pioneers once they reached our shores! By 1860 however, things were starting to change with gold discoveries occurring throughout Southern California making travel increasingly difficult for those seekingto find treasure rather than simply living off Native American landmass like so many had done before them. This changed however when entrepreneur Sam Hill built the first flour mill in downtown Stockton along University Avenue – one which helped spur further development hereabouts including an increased demand for goods shipped herefrom abroad Thanks largely to this venture though also thanks to some very good old fashioned hard work ethic on Mr. Hill’s part combined with his enterprising wife Fannie who ran everything from marketing & sales operations through production & delivery
