The city of Suisun City, California was founded in 1853 by Americans Alvarado and Stanton. The area now known as Suisun Bay was first part of the Mexican province of Monterey. In 1846, the United States acquired Rancho Santa Cruz from Mexico for $10,000. The land on which Suisun City was built became part of the Rancho San Lorenzo grant to Alvarado and his wife, Maria Elena de los Rios. On December 17, 1854, when General José J. Arguelles proclaimed Texas an independent republic, Suisun City became its capital. In 1860, General Antonio Luna moved the government from Austin to San Francisco but he left behind a large population of Texans who continued to live in San Francisco until 1862 when their citizenship was taken away and they were deported back to Texas. From 1865-1868 there were two terms of Mayor James Hahn because no one could be elected twice consecutively on account of term limits set by the state legislature at that time. After mayor Hahn resigned due to ill health in 1870, Councilman Isidro Lomas took over as mayor and served until 1872 when Lomas resigned again due to illness and John Wickersham took office In 1886–1887 there was a fire that destroyed most of downtown San Francisco including most of theOld Stock Exchange building which is still standing today (the building has been restored). It is also said that this fire may have been started by a vengeful employee who had been sacked after complaining about working conditions in the company
Suisun City is located on the Suisun Bay in Contra Costa County, California. The city was founded by the Northern Pacific Railway in 1887 as a Landing and Service Station on the southern end of Suisun Peninsula. It grew rapidly with the railway, and by 1914 it had outgrown its original location on the peninsula. In 1915, Suisun City annexed portions of nearby Walnut Creek and Menlo Park to form a new city. The annexation created a second city, which continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1922 when it merged with San Francisco.
