Suisun City is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 86,569 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Contra Costa County after Walnut Creek and Vallejo. The first Europeans to visit Suisun were Spanish missionaries in 1795. The area now known as Suisun was part of Rancho San Pablo until 1853 when it was given to John C. Fremont by Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna for his land holdings in Contra Costa County. In 1875, the United States acquired about one-third of what is now Contra Costa County from Mexico for $6 million dollars and named it Alameda County after George Washington Carver who had donated most of the land to become what is now Contra Costa County. In 1887, Henry Morton Salt developed a saltworks on Suisun Bay which became one of the world's largest salt production plants during this time. The town started out as a small community around these saltworks but soon grew into an independent village with its own school system, churches and businesses. During World War II, many businesses were closed down due to rationing of materials but most residents continued their normal lives unaffected by wartime restrictions such as food shortages and lack of housing options due to construction projects elsewhere in the county or because they resided outside of military zones. After World War II ended, many new subdivisions were built throughout much of northern Contra Costa County while downtown Suisun experienced a decline in population that began before any war-related hardships struck the town itself - although some redevelopment did take place starting around 1975 following passage of Measure B (the Homeowners' Agreement). However, by 1990 only 8 percent of all homes had been built within DowntownSuisun since its incorporation as an official city limits district less than 10 years earlier; despite this overall drop-off in development activity DowntownSuisun has seen recent significant growth including several high-end apartment buildings completed over the past few years that have revitalized parts of downtown along with increasing access to transportation options both public and private making it increasingly difficult not just to live within walking distance but also work or live close enough for day trips without feeling overwhelmed or compromised by too much transformation taking place right next door without anyCity services being offered that would help manage/prioritize those needs/opportunities...Today there are many thriving little businesses clustered around Waterfront Square near BART stations however no real public transit so you are stuck using cars if you want anything other then restaurants etc...suisincity FC
The first Suisun City post office was established in 1875. The city's incorporation as a city occurred on May 30, 1886. On July 1, 1912, the Suisun City Fire Department was organized. On November 25 of that year, the city's first water tower was erected. In 1915, the Suisun Boulevard Bridge was built and it became one of the busiest streets in town. The population of Suisun City increased from 350 to 3,000 during World War I and then to 5,000 by 1930. After the war ended, growth slowed and the population remained at around 2,500 through the 1960s and 1970s.
