Suisun City is a city in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 24,394 at the 2010 census. It is located on Suisun Bay and borders the cities of San Francisco andOakland. In 1821, the last of the Mexican gold mining districts in California was organized and named Suisun City after Commodore John D. Sloat, captain of USS Constitution who explored the San Francisco Bay area in 1825. The first post office at Suisun was founded on April 14, 1826. In 1850, a sawmill and grist mill were built by Captain George W. Saunders on Heron Creek south of town. By 1860, there were 12 businesses inSuisun City with a population of 350 people. In 1865, an unsuccessful attempt was made to build a railroad through Suisun City from Redding to Stockton; no tracks ever reachedSuisun City. In 1875, the first fruit orchard and greenhouse were built in Suisun by J.B. Cobb and his son-in-law Augustus Kelley; they produced cherries, grapes, apples and other vegetables until 1915 when they closed down due to overproduction). A water tower was erected in 1886 by Adolphus Hagedorn for use by residents; it still stands today! The first post office in Suisun went out of business on October 9th 1913 because mail had not been delivered to the new location since November 11th 1912 due to the Great Depression which had started two weeks earlier! A new post office opened on December 1st 1913 under name “Pleasant Valley” but it too closed down within two years because of lack of customers! A hotel called The Biltmore opened up on First Street between Mission Boulevard and State College Avenue around 1917 which later became known as The Embassy; it closed down around 1980! The first grocery store called The Farmer’s Market opened up at 4444 First Street near present day Interstate 5 between 1919 and 1921 which later became known as Safeway!. It is now a restaurant called Pico Rivera Bakery & Cafe! The second grocery store called The Grocery Annex opened up at 6479 First Street between 1920 and 1923 which later became known as Trader Joe’s!. It is now occupied by Pacific Gas & Electric Company!. Finally, another grocery store called The Supermarket (now Empire Outfitters) opened up at 7272 First Streetbetween 1925and 1927 which later become known as Albertsons!. This store also closed down around 1980!!!
