In 1846, two Californians, George Jones and James Irvine, founded the first coffee shop in Sunnyvale. The first business was a small grocery store on 7th Avenue. In 1865, the Jones family sold their business to John Fenton, who renamed it "Fenton's Coffee House." In 1877, Fenton's Coffee House merged with another coffee house called The Gilded Cage. The Gilded Cage became known for its high-quality coffee beans and for its unique atmosphere. It was also home to the world's first restaurant where customers could order food by telephone from a menu that included pictures of the food on a screen in front of the waiter. In 1907, Harry Kopp closed his successful bakery and moved his business to 122nd Street in Sunnyvale. He opened Kopp's Bakery until it closed in 1978. Kopp is considered one of the pioneers of artisan coffee because he pioneered roasting his own beans and serving them fresh every day at his bakery.
Sunnyvale is a city in Northern California, United States. The population was 24,283 as of the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Santa Clara County after San Jose, and it covers an area of 11 square miles (27 km²). Situated on the east coast of San Francisco Bay, Sunnyvale was founded by wealthy ranchers in 1879 as a small town named Redwood City. The first people to live here were Native Americans who hunted and gathered around today's Coyote Hills Park. In 1882, George Waddell organized what would be called the Sunnyvale Association, which erected a school and built a millrace for irrigation purposes. The community grew rapidly due to its natural resources and its location on the waterfront – it became home to shipbuilders, bankers, industrialists and other early pioneers in Silicon Valley. In 1906, Sunnyvale incorporated as a city under the name of Palo Alto. The wartime experience taught many Americans a great deal about good roasting and brewing techniques. When they returned home, they started importing these same techniques back to America and began creating their own artisanal coffees. This process continued until the early 1970s when a new movement emerged that aimed to improve upon classic European espresso methods - this is known as roasting on site. This new movement called "direct trade" allowed small farmers and their families to produce quality beans directly from their farms. As a result, there has been an increasing trend towards organic and shade-grown coffees across America, which gives these coffees a unique flavor profile not found elsewhere.

Sunnyvale is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 54,645 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest city in San Francisco Bay Area and the fifth-largest city overall in the Greater Bay Area after Oakland, San Jose, and San Francisco. The first European tosight over Sunnyvale was on December 12, 1891 when United States naval officer Commodore John Waddell sighted Mount Diablo from his ship anchored off shore at Fort Pointe Salish Kootenai on Kodiak Island. Commodore Waddell named the mountain "Mount Diablo" for him and his friend Jacob Riis who had also charted what would become Sunnyvale. In 1892 Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) built a power plant onshore near what is now West Willow Road and Rutherford Drive southwest of downtown Sunnyvale. The company became one of America's largest electric companies with its acquisition of rival Southern Pacific Railroad in 1911. In 1915 PG&E completed an El Dorado Hills substation west of downtown that provided service to parts of Hayward, Fremont and Milpitas as well as south Palo Alto until it closed in 1971 due to gas prices doubling during that period. In 1916 PG&E constructed a new substation east of downtown which became part of BART's original system when it opened in 1934; BART discontinued services to this station between 1972 and 1991 because Of increasing rail travel within Silicon Valley BART saw ridership decline from 471,000 passengers per day to just 382,000 passengers per day by 1997). In 1927 Gordon Moore developed computer chips at UC Berkeley's Lawrence Livermore Laboratory before moving them to Santa Clara County for further development at Caltech where they were designated Intel 8068s starting in 1969 followed by AMD 765x4 microprocessors starting in 1970 marking the beginning of high performance computing (HPC) technology today called supercomputing . UCLA purchased land adjacent to their silicon valley campus overlooking Saratoga Avenue which they renamed Moorpark while still using CPU designations such as 80286/80387 etc... UCLA continued research into High Energy Physics until 1974 when they transferred all their research operations including particle accelerators(EP), synchrotron radiation therapy(SRT), laser light amplification spectroscopy(LAS), dark matter searches etc...over to UC Berkeley where they continue research till present day
On July 8, 1853, the first post office in Sunnyvale opened. The name of the town was given to it by General James K. Polk during his visit to the area on October 15 of that year. The community was founded on a small grant from John Sutter, who donated land to the United States government for its new mission station in what is now Santa Clara County. In 1865, Sunnyvale became an incorporated municipality with a population of about 150 people. In 1908, Sunnyvale High School was built and named after American President Theodore Roosevelt. In 1916, the City hall was built and dedicated by Mayor Amedeo Cristiani. In 1936, Sunnyvale Municipal Airport opened as a commercial airport under lease from the County of Santa Clara with an initial capacity of 10 aircraft per day. It would eventually grow into Silicon Valley's largest airport with over 100 aviation-related businesses currently located there including Boeing and Airbus factories as well as two major hotels and numerous other services related to air travel such as baggage handling and air conditioning. In 1978, Apple Inc.'s headquarters moved from Stanford University campus in Palo Alto to Cupertino following their purchase of Apple Computer Corporation (AAPL). Additionally, both campuses were amalgamated into one large campus known today simply as "Apple".
