The United States Air Force has an air force gift history dating back to World War II. The first USAF unit was activated on December 15th, 1941 in the city of San Francisco as the 9th Pursuit Squadron. This squadron was made up of P-38 Lightning fighter planes and operated out of San Francisco until 1945 when it moved to Sacramento, California. In 1946 the squadron changed its name to the 9th Fighter Wing and continued operations from Sacramento untilactivated on September 30th, 1990 in Tucson, Arizona. The first USAF airlift unit was activated on October 3rd, 1947 at Indio Municipal Airport in Indio, California as the 514th Airlift Squadron. The squadron operated Lockheed C-141A Starlifter aircraft and flew cargo supplies to US military bases throughout North America. On July 1st, 1951 the squadron permanently relocated to John Wayne Airport in Long Beach, California becoming part of Ninth Air Force which later became Tactical Air Command (TAC). With TAC's arrival came a new era for USAF airlift with Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft being used for transports and evacuations throughout South Asia during both the Korean War and Vietnam War. In 1970 ADC redesignated Ninth Air Force as Strategic Air Command (SAC) under control of Headquarters USAF. With SAC's arrival came a new era for USAF strategic bombardment with H-1H Helicopters being used for this purpose during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 while other types such as Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bombers were used for ground support tasks such as target acquisition and artillery fires during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. After more than fifty years since its activation there is still no one permanent AFB stationed within Susanville – but that doesn't mean that there isn't any history associated with this town situated just north of Fresno County seat(s) of Fresno/osoia/Visalia/Rancho Tehama National Monument Districts collectively known as "the Central Valley". It should be noted that these boundaries have not always been perfectly clear - sometimesSusanville encompassed entire or nearly all of what is now Visalia County; at times it included only a small slice of Rancho Tehama Nation land lying east of Interstate 5; while finally other portions lay within either Osoia or Fresno Counties In recent years various efforts have been made by various local organizations - most notably Susanville Area History Museum - to resurrect some aspects of USAF airlift history hereabouts includingBUTTERFLIES AND ALLIGATORS: THE STORY OF USAAF AIRLIFT GIFT STORES IN SUSANVILLE CA One example is how officials from Susanville Area History Museum are currently working on creating an exhibit entitled "AIR FORCE Gift Histories: A timeline" which will document gift histories dating back to World War II through present day This project is important because it seeks to help preserve our nation's aviation heritage by providing access historical artifacts relevant thereto thereby helping researchers learn more about American exceptionalism through archaeology .

Susanville is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,558 at the 2000 census. The name Susanville comes from the Spanish word "susana" meaning "honeycomb." The village was founded in 1907 by Herman and Jennie Armstrong as a summer home for their three daughters. It became a full-fledged community in 1912 when theArmstrong brothers named it after their mother's birthplace, Susanfeld, Germany. The community developed around two churches: First Methodist and Second Baptist. A post office was opened in 1914 and remained open until 1959. In 1916 the first school was built; it became an all-day junior college in 1956. In 1960, the first high school opened; it became Kern Valley High School in 1984. In 1978, Susanville incorporated as a city; its mayor at that time was Wolfgang Pohlman. Residents voted to make Susanville an official independent city on December 5 of that year by referendum ballotage ballots cast at various municipal election sites across Kern County. On January 7 of that year, Mayor Pohlman signed legislation creating the City Council with six members instead of five as originally proposed and increasing the size of city services from four to six including zoning authority over business districts within its borders which had been provided only through special district status since 1965 The population growth during the 1990s caused increased infrastructure needs such as transportation and water systems that were not possible or appropriate to be funded without tax increases which also led to budget deficits throughout much of this decade which have continued into the 21st century . To address these issues and mitigate some long term revenue shortfalls while preserving essential services such as public safety forces ,the City Council approved 3rdAmendment Tax increase effective July 1st 2006 raising $27 million dollars for local government purposes over 4 years bringing total General Fund dedicated money invested into Susanville’s coffers since 2006 up to $137 million dollars……….There are still many unfunded priorities that need attention like road renovation/ resurfacing (many streets look Brand New but lack funding) – Current street repairs cost almost $2K per mile….. Overall we are seeing positive trends but more work needs to be done especially if we want our citizens who live here everyday to feel safe whether they are walking their dog or taking a walk down Main Street….. With all new technology available today we can see things changing rapidly so keeping up with latest trends is key!

Susanville was founded in 1878 by Captain John Sutter. The town was named for Susan, the daughter of his friend and mentor, George A. Smith. In 1915, the town became a protectorate of California under the United States Department of Agriculture. The town experienced a great deal of growth in the 1920s and 1930s due to increased farming activity and development around it as well as an influx of workers from nearby Fresno and other parts of California. During World War II, much production took place in Susanville thanks to its proximity to military installations. After the war, the town began to decline as agricultural production declined and unique architecture began to disappear. However, recent economic development has seen a resurgence in interest in Susanville culture and history; there have been efforts made to revive old buildings and establishments such as the local tavern (now called "The Grange" after being donated by its previous owner) as well as restoration projects for many of the more significant structures within town limits.
