Potter bought a piece of land north ofSusanville and built a mill on the stream that flows through the town. In 1865, Mrs. Sarah Ewing founded theSusanville Coffee House and Store, which served as the center for trade in Susanville until it closed its doors in 1941. From then on, coffee beans were brought into Susanville primarily by truck or by boat because there was no rail connection betweenSusanville and other parts of the country at that time. In 1971, after many years of effort by local entrepreneurs and anonymous donors, the Susanville Coffee Company was reborn as an independent business with local ownership and control over all aspects of its production and marketing operations. The population was 7,723 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Susanville was John Dickey in 1879. Dickey named his new community for his wife's sister, Susan Ewing. The name quickly became popular and it has been used by residents ever since. Susanville started as a small agricultural community with only a few hundred acres (0.24 km2). But over time, its economy grew to include manufacturing and Wholesale trade along with agriculture until around 1990 when the decline of local industry led to a drop in population and an overall decline in economic activity throughout Ventura County Today, many people still call Susanville home because it has remain unchanged since their early days as an agricultural community - there are no big box stores or shopping malls here! Susanville is a census-designated place in the East Bay region of San Francisco, California. The population at the 2010 census was 25,869. Susanville lays at an elevation of 546 feet (160 m). It was named for Susan Ware, who surveyed the area in 1849. The first post office in Susanville opened in 1865. The town was platted on December 15, 1872 by Samuel Waddell and James Fenton. A hotel and store were built in 1876, and a school was established in 1881. The first telephone service arrived in 1886. In 1907, the railroad came through Susanville and renamed it Station Hill after its terminus at Fremont Bridge. In 1948, the United States military began conducting interrogations at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base on suspicion of crimes against humanity including torture and murder; their use of secret prisons has been denounced as torture by many countries around the world subsequently. As a result of this news article published by "The Chronicle" on January 12th 1948 one million people within a radius of three miles read about what had been going on at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base without knowing any better because there were no other outlets to get information out there other than newspapers which didn't have staff that could do more than once or twice a day during those days because they were all filled with ads for job openings! As part of Operation Neptune's Spear—a combined US/Soviet operation codenamed Winter Quarantine—the citizens ofSusanville were told to leave their homes on December 3rd 1975 due to fears that North Korea would launch an attack against South Korea that month resulting in millions dead across Asia!
Susanville was founded in 1887, by E. B. Fuller and his wife, Angelina. The town was named for Susan Biddle Fuller who donated the land for the town. The first post office was established in 1889. In 1907, the townsite of Susanville merged with that of renamed Glassell to form a new municipality. The name of the new municipality was changed to Susanville in 1912 after Mrs. Fuller's death. From 1913-1927, the post office operated under the name Glassell until it reopened as Susanville on November 3, 1927 under new postal authorities following a change in United States Postal Service regulations The originalSusanville post office building is still extant and is currently used as a private residence
