In Susanville, California, Marines deployed gift history in the early 1800s. The first Marines stationed in Susanville were called the 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment and arrived on February 14, 1847. They were a part of the California Volunteers and served until May 1, 1848. The 2nd Battalion of the 12th Marine Regiment arrived in Susanville on November 5, 1849. They served as part of the 9th Infantry Brigade and fought at Buena Vista during Mexican-American War (1846-48). The 3rd Battalion of the 12th Marine Regiment arrived in Susanville on January 17, 1850. They served as part of 1st Brigade and participated in campaigns against Yuma River (March 8-11), Santa Barbara Mountains (May 21-24) and Baja California Peninsula (July 6-9). On October 16, 1860, 4th Marines battalion arrives to serve with First Brigade Third Division General Order #1 which ordered all marine infantry battalions to dress like United States Cavalry troops for special operations missions under command of Major General Winfield Scott Hancock. This was an important development because it allowed marines to wear uniforms while engaging enemy forces instead of their traditional Barbarians circa 1850 clothing. The battalion departed San Francisco for duty in the Gold Rush country on January 13, 1861. The battalion returned to San Francisco on April 10 after serving throughout summer 1861 conducting reconnaissance along Sacramento River valley looking for new gold fields while also providing protection for citizens from marauding Indians who had invaded California from neighboring Mexico since December 20 that year. The battalion left San Francisco once again for duty on September 20 when hostilities erupted between US & Mexican nations over building a road through Arizona known as “the Ditch” that would cross south federal land boundary near today’s Tucson AZ
Susanville is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Susanville was made on October 14, 1867 by three men who came overland from San Francisco with livestock and were the first to settle in Kern County. The town was named forSusanella Hill (1814-1868), an Anglo-Californian woman who had arrived in San Francisco as a child and later became a naturalized citizen of the United States. The first store in Susanville was built on Main Street and operated by Wm. Fenton and his brother Hiram from 1868 to 1871. A post office called Susanville was established on March 17, 1870, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on December 6, 1907. On January 15, 1886 the towns of Mayacaibo and Visalia were merged into Susanville; this merger did not take place because Visalia had already been merged into Fresno two weeks earlier than Mayacaibo. In 1902Susanville incorporated as a city under the provisions of Section 9 of the City Charter provided for by state law which allowed incorporation when there are no other municipalities within one thousand miles that have adopted such a charter provision without act of their legislatures or referendum vote; however this never took place because only 4% of Kern County residents lived within one thousand miles as of 1902 according to statistics from the US Census Bureau . In 1906the city annexed most of unincorporated territory located eastward along UGA Boulevard (now known as State Route 99) including much rural farmland which has since been developed into large housing tracts known locally as "The Hills". As part of this annexation process some homes belonging to local farmers were given back to them through an agreement called "Fresno Compromise" which required compensation for these properties being returned although many farmers continued to live on their land until after World War II when development began again near their homes.. In 1912SUSANVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS FORMED FROM THE CONVERSION OF ONE OF THE PREVIOUS SCHOOL DISTRICTS INTO A PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT AND ITS NAME CHANGED TO SUSANVILLE CITY HIGH SCHOOL District No 2 . On April 25th 1920 SUSANVILLE CITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT NO 2 WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE SOUTHERN KERN COUNTY BUSINESSMAN'S DISTrict No 10 THROUGHOUT KERN COUNTY . ON MAY 3RD 1922 SUSANVILLE CITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT NO 2 MOVED TO SOUTHERN KERN COUNTY BUSINESSMAN'S DISTrict No 11 WHERE IT NOW STANDS

Burnside sent a detachment of marines to the Philippines as part of an American military expedition to overthrow Spanish rule. From 1847-1848, the Marine detachment served in Mexico City as part of the Mexican Expedition against Texas independence rebels led by Antonio López de Santa Anna. Additionally, from 1851-1853, marines served in Cuba under Commodore John D. Sloat during its revolution against Spanish colonial rule
Susanville is a small city in Kern County, California. The population was 3,841 at the 2010 census. It was founded by George and Mary Jane Applegate on November 30, 1887 as a citrus orchard town. The nameSusanville came from an early post office named Susan Creek. The first store opened in 1889 in the old millinery building on Main Street. A new store was built in 1912 and became the largest in town with a floor area of 107 feet by 42 feet (31 m x 11 d). In 1922, the Post Office closed due to high postal rates and no more mail coming into Susanville; it reopened as an agricultural goods store under the name of "Grapevine". In 1928, Mrs. Applegate donated land to build what would become the first community hall. It served as a meeting place for residents until 1939 when it burned down due to faulty wiring during a severe thunderstorm. A new hall was built on the same site in 1948 and served as the town's library until 1977 when it moved to its present location on Fox Valley Drive. The library also has a digital archive of local history materials dating back to 1913 that can be searched using their online catalogue
