The marines corps' Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton has been housing Marine units since 1907 when it was established at what is now known as San Diego County Fairgrounds on Rancho Santa Fe near present day Escondido CA . From here they operated outposts all around California until 1898 when they moved their Headquarters Facility to Camp Pendleton on Angel Island Naval Station (now Yuma AZ ). During WWII ,MCBPA contributed funds for many scientific research projects which were later cited by Congress as being important for America's victory in war . MCBPA also administers several recreational activities such as marine swimming competitions held at Balboa Park & Nimitz Pier ; Mardi Gras balls given at Quantico AFB; concerts given at Point Loma; golf tournaments; rifle shot demonstrations; Stars Over Vietnam Night sky parties etc... Susanville is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 4,521 at the 2010 census. The name Susanville was given to the town by General Mariano Vallejo in 1848 as part of his effort to promote irrigation projects in the area. Susanville is located on State Route 395, about 20 miles east of Bakersfield and 10 miles west of Del Norte. The first post office in Susanville was established on December 3, 1858, and served the towns of North Susanville and South Susanville until it became a part of Bakersfield on October 15, 1860. The first store opened in Susanville on November 21, 1861. Pemberton & Company built a flour mill here in 1865-1866. In 1889 Trust Co., which had been organized that year to manage phosphate mining operations nearSusanville acquired title to all but two tracts of land within the town limits from Alameda & Co., which owned surface mines nearby. The last store closed its doors in 1990 and has since been demolished. A number of agricultural products were grown here during the early years: wheat, oats, hay, potatoes (including black potatoes), carrots, apples trees etc.. However most notably this period saw some dramatic changes with regards to trade; starting with wagon trains coming through from Northern California carrying goods such as lumber and other farm items; then following with railroads transporting more merchandise downrange; culminating with large scale shipment by steamship beginning around 1900 when farmers started canning tomatoes at an ever increasing rate utilizing new technologies like refrigeration In 1957 local author John Steinbeck wrote one of his very earliest published pieces for use at high school English classes called "The Grapes Of Wrath." On July 14th 1957 nine locals banded together to start what would become known as "theSusanvillians" after their hometown's connection to Steinbeck's novel! A few weeks later they held their first meeting where they initially decided upon their mission statement – 'to help our hometown get recognition for its great place - something we've all longed for.' And so it began...
The town of Susanville was founded in 1876 by George W. Howe and named after his wife,Susan. The first post office was established in Susanville on December 28, 1880. The town grew rapidly from its small population of 10 residents in 1880 to a population of 100 by 1890. By 1915, the population had grown to 210 and the name changed to Susanville-Montebello. In 1951, the City of Susanville merged with Montebello and the name was once again changed to Susanville-Montebello.
