Susanville is part of the Bakersfield–San Joaquin Valley metropolitan area. The history of Susanville goes back to 1875 when a group of English settlers named Mountford deeded 8 square miles (20 km²) of land east of present-day Susanville to the San Joaquin Valley Railroad Company for $5 per acre (0.2 hectare). In 1925, the railroad company sold an additional 4square miles (10 km²) to the City of Susanville for $1 per acre (0.04 hectare). In 1945, when World War II began, the United States government donated land east of town for military purposes. The military built Camp Roberts whichlater became Mission San Antonio de Asís parish church and school complex on Rancho Santa Fe Road (). Today, it houses numerous agencies such as Veterans Affairs Regional Medical Center and Caltrans Highway 521 road construction zones around it. The first person to live in what is nowSusanville was John Sutter who arrived there in 1875 with his family from Northern California's Shasta County. He platted out what is now Susanville on April 10th, 1876 after landing there on an American sailing vessel called "Hercules". Captain Aiken had chartered the ship from livery master William Friesebeck based in Sacramento and he intended to visit various goldfields in central California before sailing home across the Pacific Ocean on October 12th but foundered off Point Reyes Peninsula due to bad weather while en route northward instead reaching southern California November 3rd having made over 2 million dollars worth of discoveries during his trip! That same year another man by name Ofelia Pfeiffer established a post office at Horseshoe Bend northwest corner lot number 6 within today's boundaries of Upland south side street running northerly parallel said lots being bounded by North Adobe Avenue between Lots 22 & 29 thence easterly along said streets westerly until its intersection with South Adobe Avenue herein antient boundaries were Lot 7 northeast corner lot line 2 east thereof then northerly along said streets Westerley until its intersection with Boundary Street herein original limits were Northwest Corner lot line 9 west thence easterley along said Streets Westerley unto its intersection with East boundary Street heretofore called Wellington But renamed later Wells Fargo Place for Mrs Gertrude Wells Fargo daughter of Mr wellesley Fargo Ira Cahn son-in-lawof Mrs Gertrude Wells Fargo also settled therein early summer following their arrival all white men except one Mexican male who resided next door also known as “Pancho” very early days many pioneers died because disease carried away many people including women and children several wells were drilled soon after settlement commenced this included Drake Well located just southeast corner lots 24 & 31 here Drilling continued until about 1905 according to records private water supply started shortly thereafter

Susanville is located in Inyo County, California and was founded by the Susanville Mining Company in 1887. The company mined coal until 1914. The town was named for Susana Ortiz, who had purchased a rancho in 1876. The first post office opened in 1886, and the present day Susanville incorporation took place on May 14, 1907. The uranium mining industry played a significant role in the growth of Susanville during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Uranium ore was found at several locations within miles of the town and it became one of the major industries in Susanville after local deposits were discovered near Otherworldly Lake in 1902. During World War II, many businesses were destroyed or turned over to government ownership as part of the war effort. This included dentistry business Driggs & Associates which merged with General Dynamics Corporation in 1945; Mrs. Gores’ grocery store which became Fortress Foods; hardware store Wagon Wheel Hardware; clothing store Bellevue Hardship Department Store;and two small hospitals—Hospital #1 (now known as Memorial Hospital) and Hospital #2 (now known as University Medical Center). In 1957, Susanville became home to Western Electric Telephone Company’s Research Laboratories for Electronic Components Division before being sold to American Telephone & Telegraph Corporation (AT&T) later that year. AT&T leased space from Western Electric at its main campus on Main Street before eventually moving into their own building on Sunset Boulevard adjacent to Universal Studios Hollywood between 1958-1972. As part of its efforts to modernize its infrastructure following its move from an analogue telephone system to digital ones during 1984-1985, AT&T constructed a new hospital complex consisting of multiple buildings including a psychiatric unit and an maternity wing along with new streetscape features such as a large water tower housing both microwave relay dishes used for voice transmission beams across Atwater Drive while also providing power for city streetlights; numerous truck stops dotting various areas throughout downtown with services such as restaurant/bars/stores available 24/7 while also allowing wireless internet access throughout most or all indoor spaces within buildings via microwave systems; and numerous parking lots were built especially designated for employees’ personal use within blocks distance away from company headquarters complete with associated garages, bike racks, etc.; this last feature came about due to continuing health concerns relating to air quality caused by high levels of ozone created when antennas inside AT&T's ammonia plant were used interchangeably with those at nearby Southern Pacific Railroad yards during that time period.]

In 1907, the community was named for Mrs. Susan Atherton of Lompoc, California. The first post office in Susanville opened on November 3, 1907. The population of Susanville was 1 at its peak in 1920. By 1930, the population had decreased to about 60 people. In 1940, a new school was built and the population increased to about 100 people again until 1951 when it decreased again to about 50 people due to World War II-related layoffs and other factors.
