Military deployed gifts have been a part of Tehachapi's history for many years. The first military shipment to the town was a wagon train of supplies in 1849. On July 4, 1876, General John C. Fremont delivered an armistice agreement between the United States and Mexico at Sutter's Fort. A detachment of American soldiers stationed in Tehachapi escorted the caravan of goods to San Francisco. The town received its first livingitary gift from the U.S. Army on May 25, 1886 when Major James Wickersham donated 10 acres of land to be used as a training ground for officers cadets from nearby towns like Simi Valley and Round Rock. The land was known as Camp Grant until it was renamed Camp Wickersham in 1912 after Major Wickersham's son-in-law, General Norman Wickersham Sr., who served as Commandant at Camp Grant during World War I and later became president of University of California at Davis. In 1921, Tehachapi became home to the First Armored Division which was activated within the United States Army during World War II under Lieutenant General George Custer and his commandusters general staff battalion (later Headquarters and Service Battalion). As part of Operation Neptune's Spear, portions of this brigade were mobilized into duty throughout Japan on September 3-9 1944 while others remained in theater support capacity until Japan surrender on August 15 1945. A notable military deployment gift that has come down through time is a commemorative plaque honoring fallen U.S Marines Sergeant First Class Gary Epps who drowned along with his unit off Okinawa on December 7 1986 while serving as platoon leader with Company K/1st Marine Regiment during Operation Downfall amphibious assault landing operation against enemy forces ashore near Wakayama Harbor 330 miles southeast of Tokyo Bay Philippines task force Emmons organized by then Marine lieutenant colonel Michael Jeter Jr.. This event occurred fewer than two weeks after Epps had become embedded within Platoon 1/5th Marines Regimental Combat Team 2nd Brigade Combat team attached directlyto 1st Marine Divisional Ground Forces tasked with assaulting beachhead deep inside enemy controlled territory immediately adjacent To Japanese mainland located approximately 800 miles SW PACIFIC OCEAN At least 198 combat killed & over 500 wounded including Sgt Epps Our thoughts are w/Gary family & all involved In local service @ POW camp #MarineCorps

In the 1994-1995 federal budget, the US Congress allocated $365 million for military deployments to specified areas around the world-- specifically for O'Henry County, CA. This money was used to purchase an extra 210 armored personnel carriers (APCs), as well as 1,000 rifles, pistols and shotguns. The purpose of these deployments is not yet known but they are likely exercises or maneuvers with a potential deployment into Mexico or South America.
Tehachapi, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Kern River and near Bakersfield. The first Europeans to visit Tehachapi were fur traders led by Captain John C. Frémont in 1841-1842. After Frémont's explorations of the region, a post office was established in 1845 with the name of "California." In 1861, a new post office was built at what is now downtown Tehachapi and it continued to be called Califórdia until January 1st 1915 when it became known as "Tehachapi" after General James Halleck's proclamation giving it that name. On July 9th 1860, prospector George A. Smith discovered gold at Sutter's Mill; this discovery soon made Tehachapi one of the most important gold towns in California. On September 1st 1861 General James Halleck ordered all American forces into action against Mexican forces qui eluding him near Tulare Creek during the Californio Rebellion; this prompted Governor Goodwin Olney to order telegraph operators throughout Northern California not to send messages because he did not want any news getting out of Mexico City before his troops could arrive there and suppress the rebellion. The town experienced some very high drama during these events with many people being killed or captured including Mayor George Fenton who was held for ransom by Mexican general Joaquín Murillo y Toro until his release in 1865 (see also: Gold Rush). In 1862 an ad for land containing 4,000 acres (1 km²) went up for sale on local newspaper pages; within weeks over 60% of all offers had been accepted and development began immediately upon receipt of government approval from August 1863 through March 1865 inclusive. This initial flurry of activity included construction of a church (1863), school (1864), sawmill (1865), store/office building (1866), hotel/motel (1867-69), blacksmith shop/ forge(s) ( 1870-72), Nugget mine(s) ( 1875?), post office(s) (. . .) It should be noted that although much remains unknown about early Tehachapi history due to lack thereof evidence or sources available only from oral traditions used by participants over time--the town has come back into play as an interesting place unto itself both historically and archaeologically over time as various phenomena have occurred there such as crime rates plummeting following incorporation into larger communities while simultaneously increasing property values--much has been learned since its incorporation into downtown Kern County circa 1945 which includes items such as how water usage played a significant role early on before more modern plumbing arrived which then led to increased infrastructure costs leading to even lower crime rates given proper funding etc etc...among other things etc... One example would be Rancho Niguel--a smaller community adjacent to downtown Tehachiapa about 12 miles eastward along Interstate 5 between Yreka and Redding--which experienced drastic reductions in crime rates following incorporation into nearby city Redding circa 1980? And so on...etc etc...despite still having much left Unknown about early Techachiapa history!

It is part of the San Joaquin Valley and has been known as "Theadra" for much of its history. The town was founded in 1887 by Mormon settlers as a ranching community on land that had been given to them by Mexican President Alvarado. The name Tehachapi comes from the Spanish word "tecatecchapa", meaning "place of great trees". In 1912, Tehachapi incorporated as a city under the jurisdiction of Fresno. In 1944, during World War II, General George Custer's Battle Axe Ranch was located in what is now Tehachapi and it was used as an airfield for military planes transporting supplies to Los Angeles. In 1957, the first post office opened in Tehachapi with mail service coming from nearby Fresno. On November 17th, 1959, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law Proposition 15 which created the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB). The purpose of the organization was to direct state water resources development and ensure equitable sharing among member agencies within a statewide framework
Tehachapi is located in the San Gabriel Valley, and was founded in 1847 by John Sutter. The town grew rapidly due to its position along the traveled route of the Central Pacific Railroad, and became a major center of gold mining during the mid-19th century. Tehachapi's economy declined during the 20th century, but has experienced significant growth since 2000 as a result of new development in the area.
