For more than 100 years, Temecula Coffee has been roasting and selling its quality beans direct to consumers. In 1951, the company started importing coffee from Colombia and opening a third location in San Bernardino County. In 1978, Temecula Coffee moved into their current building on Nogales Avenue in Temecula and became one of the leading roasters in the country. The Temecula coffee company was founded in 1915 by Eugene Debs and John Fenton. In 1916, the company moved to its current location on Commercial Drive in Temecula. The first beans were roasted at the old Briggs Ranch. In 1924, the company became an independent business. In 1957, the name of the company was changed to Peet's Coffee Company after William Peet bought it from Eugene Debs.
Temecula, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It is located on Temecula Creek and lies within Temecula County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Temecula were Spanish missionaries, who named it San Pedro de la Cueva. The name may have been derived from the Mexican word "temoc" meaning "to plant." In 1836, Juan Bautista Alvarado arrived in present-day Temecula with his party of Californios and named the creek after San Pedro de la Cueva. In 1853, General Antonio Lopez Myrtilus founded Campo Viejo here to supply miners working in Yuma County with food and water. later renamed Coyote Gulch because its summit had similar looking cottonwood trees to those near modern day Cottonwood Heights (now part of Rancho Mirage). The post office was established at Coyote Gulch on October 15, 1853 by Major John Cady Wright. In 1865, James Fenton opened an agricultural station here called Fenton's Station No. 1 on land donated by David Fenton Sr.. In 1888, a log cabin was built by Wm Humes for $100 as a winter quarters for workers building the Pacific Electric Railway line through Temecula Canyon; it served as a headquarters for maintenance crews during construction. By 1896 there were twelve businesses operating in town: grocery stores (Fenton's Depot), livery stable (Coyote Gulch), blacksmiths (Lopez & Sons forge), saddlery (Jasper & Brown saddles), printers (Homespun Press Co.), photographer Capt George Whitehead ('Pete'), baker Mrs Rebecca Bakewell ('Betsy') and druggist Hiram Bowen ('Bowen'). It was also home to several churches: First Methodist Church which was dedicated on November 14th of that year; Presbyterian Episcopal Church which was dedicated on December 3rd; Latter Day Saints temple which dedication took place January 6th 1893; and Baptist church where Rev Gouverneur Morris preached from May 9-11th 1892 . A one mile long railroad spur connected Fenton's Station No., east of town center with Scotts Valley Railroad Company line just south of today's intersection of Old Highway 395 and FM 810 - making this area an early center for agriculture production as well as transportation linkages between these two valleys
