Temecula, California is a city located in Riverside County, California. The population was 66,200 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area and is home to Qualcomm Stadium and Temecula Valley Resort. The first Europeans to sight Temecula were Spanish traders on their way from Monterey Bay tofound new land in California in 1769. A small village developed near the mouth of Coyote Creek as early as 1848. In 1885, John Sutter arrived with his herd of Cahuilla Indians and established the first permanent Anglo-American settlement in what would become Riverside County when he purchased Rancho Rinconada from Manuel Nieto for $5,000. In 1887, Temecula was incorporated as a city and became one of Southern California's most rapidly growing communities. The largest single factor promoting growth during this decade was the discovery of oilfield resources about 15 miles (24 km) southeast of town by Pinchot Oil Company worker George Waddell on November 15, 1912; this opened up an era of great wealth for local residents and led to construction of much needed infrastructure including a water supply system and public works projects such as a new courthouse and hospital complex. -In 1923 Temecula voted overwhelmingly to secede from Riverside County over issues surrounding taxes

Temecula, California is located in the Mojave Desert and is bordered by Nevada to the east and south, Kern County to the west, Riverside County to the north and east, and San Bernardino County to the northwest. The Temecula Valley was first populated by Mono people before they were pushed out of their valley in 1846. The town of Temecula was founded in 1907 by Dr. Harry Hahn as a tuberculosis cure clinic. In 1915, Temecula became an incorporated city. The economy of Temecula has been based on agriculture since its early days. Today, Temecula is a bedroom community forSouthern California with many businesses located there such as Kaiser Permanente health care systems and Ford Motor Company plants.
The Temecula Valley is located in the central area of San Diego County, California. It is bordered by Riverside and Union Counties to the north, Orange County to the east, and Lake Poway to the south. The valley was originally populated by Native Americans who used the area for hunting and gathering activities. In 1821, about 12 miles (19 km) northwest of Temecula on a bluff overlooking the Temecula River were erected two small adobe buildings known as Fort Tejon. A military post operated here from 1821 until 1825 when it was moved to Redondo Beach because of its strategic location along trade routes between Southern California and Mexico City. In 1848, Jens Jensen started trading with Mission San Juan Bautista de Anza for goods he could not find locally. He named his discovery "Jensen's Rancho" after himself and his partner in this business, Jens Christensen. From this base Jensen ran a ranch that supplied goods to missions throughout southern California until his death in 1886. His holdings passed down through his sons until they were sold at public auction in 1911 to Edwin Sanger who renamed them "Sanger Rancho." This ranch became one of the largest dairy farms in northern California before becoming defunct due to exhaustion of resources during World War II; it was restarted following World War II but has been inactive since 2003. After World War II, some people returned to live on Sanger Rancho while others built homes there over time; today much of Sanger Rancho remains undeveloped although several parcels have been developed adjacent thereto including a golf course, shopping center and housing developments dating back into the late 1960s-early 1970s which are now being restored as part of a park called Sanger Park which includes exhibits about early Californian life
