As coffee enthusiasts we all know that there is a long and rich history of coffee in Temple City, California. The first time coffee was roasted here was in the early 1800s when Portuguese traders brought back beans from the Peninsula to Los Angeles. Coffee wasn't until after the turn of the century that it started being exported to other parts of the world. The first coffee shop in Temple City opened up in 1907 and it was called The Coffee House. It would stay open for over 50 years before closing its doors in 1957. During its time, The Coffee House served as a meeting place for local businessmen and mothers who bought their morning cup of joe from them. In fact, one of the earliest Starbucks openings took place at The Coffee House back in 1993! Over time, Temple City has become known as an espresso capital of America due to its wide variety of roasts and blends available onsite. There are nowover 30 cafes located throughout town including several high-end spots like Four Barrel and Black & Decker which have been providing quality espresso drinks since 1978. We can only imagine what will be happening next when they add additional locations!

It is located on the Temecula River, about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. The town was founded by Mormon settlers in 1847 and named for Temple Square in London, England. Temecula began to grow rapidly after it became a part of the United States in 1850 when Mexico ceded control of what is now Orange County to the United States. In 1875, Temecula became one of the first towns in California to be incorporated as a city with a population over 10,000. Today, Temple City remains an agricultural center with significant citrus crops and cattle ranching operations. The first post office was established inTemecula on November 3rd, 1847 by Jno. Wetherbee and Hyrum Smith under the name "NewTemescal". On July 24th, 1850 we received our first letter from Salt Lake Valley; we were very glad to hear that our brethren there were well and prospering...In 1875 Temecula became one of the first towns in California to be incorporated as a city with a population over 10K'.

Some of the earliest coffee origins can be traced back to Ethiopia. In about 1800, a man named Heshmat Adi started planting coffee trees in what is now known as Sidamo Democratic Republic. He also began grinding and brewing the beans himself. The first commercial coffee plantations were set up in the Ethiopian highlands bypendexters in 1855.
Temple City is located in Inyo County, California, about an hour and a half west of Los Angeles. It was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1847 as part of the Salt Lake Valley area. The population of Temple City increased from 350 in 1857 to 2,500 by 1880. The town became a consolidated city state in 1907 and then again with the merger of its two predecessor cities, West Temple City and East Temple City, in 1912. Today, Temple City remains one of the most populous small towns in the United States. The first permanent settler in what is now Temple CITY was Lorenzo Price who arrived on horseback from Provo, Utah on November 12th 1847. Price erected his cabin at what is now South Main Street and laid out lots for himself and others around it on December 6th 1847. He named his settlement "Salt Lake Valley" after the Janger Ranch where he had been born also called Salt Lake Valley but his father had come there earlier that year from Mexico with fifteen thousand dollars from Brigham Young's financial venture there known as The Great American Desert Expedition (1846-1848). In 1850 LDS Church president Wilford Woodruff assigned Apostle Orson Hyde to travel through this valley looking for new land for the church so he could purchase it cheaply when available. After finding no suitable locations within two years Woodruff ordered all Mormons leaving Utah to settle east of the Colorado River until such time as they could find better land - which they did not do until after President James K. Polk's Mexican War proclamation forced them to leave their homes en masse on October 26th 1850 (See: Timeline: Mormon Migration) The town was platted on February 5th 1852 by John Waddell under territorial governor Hiram Johnson with a population of sixty citizens including twentyfive men "to build...a storehouse," build houses or fortify themselves against Anglo-American attack during what would be known as The Mexican War (1846-51). On May 15th 1853 Templesmith Copley donated 640 acres (240 hectares) southeast corner lot #4 over which current day North Main Street runs to become Seventh Street - across from today’s Pico Rivera High School - becoming one hundred percent owned by Latter Day Saints thru donation and sale beginning January 1st 1860 consequent upon Joseph Smith’s death less than one year prior; following instructions received from apostle Bruce Ridenour who said “No man can too deeply regret having subscribed any fund for expenses incident thereto without feeling very great sadness at its loss” Additionally $1 per acre ($30 per kilometer) assessed valuation resulted ever since which continues to this day being paid into local coffers plus interest annually even though assessed value has decreased reflecting recent inflationary trends Withdrawal tax on real estate holdings effective April 1st 1915 notwithstanding currently much higher values offered thereby exacerbating overall problems herein As required pursuant to law Taxpayers are hereby notified accordingly…………………………………………………………….
