Temple City is a city in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population was U.S. $128 million as of July 1, 2018, making it the most populous city in Los Angeles County and one of the most populous cities in California. The first English settlers arrived in what is now Temple City on November 4, 1771 when Captains John Cook and his party left Fort Mims after landing at Mission Bay on Santa Catalina Island. They were seeking passage to Bothell, Washington Territory but ran into Native American resistance before reaching their destination. Captain Cook's men became known as "the Pioneers." On November 10, 1847 James Wolkowsky granted land to Joseph Smith Jr., father of LDS Church founder Joseph Smith Jr., for the purpose of building an Fruitvale settlement which would become known as Nauvoo. On December 6, 1847 Brigham Young wrote: "I have been called by God to be a Prophet like His Son Jesus Christ and I am going forth to bring forth his kingdom through my 481 members" – this statement signaled that he too saw himself as a prophetlike figure second only to Jesus Christ himself. A group of Latter-day Saints under Young organized themselves into a political organization called the First Presidency on January 12th 1850 under direction from George Quesada which eventually became the Utah Territorial Legislature that January 15th repealed Ordinance No.-4–1850 outlawing polygamy within territorial boundaries; this event set off an uprising against Spanish colonial rule over northern Mexico led by Mexican revolutionary Pio Cortés that culminated with his conquest of Mexico on October 25th 1846 during what is known as the Mexican War Of Independence This event brought about waves of immigration from southeastern Europe including many Jews who had fled anti-Semitic riots across Hungary during Springtime Pogroms or pogroms throughout Hungary starting on March 14th 1840 when Kingdom Of Hungary abolished serfdom - giving rise to massive Jewish migration into Ottoman Empire then Eastern European countries during late 19th century due largelyto economic opportunities available in new societies; many Jews also migrated en masse to North America where they formed various sects such as Hasidic Judaism beginning around 1800 CE thanks partially to Chabad Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson's efforts

In 1862, a school was built and named for Joseph Smith Jr., founder of the LDS Church. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location along Interstate 10 and its access to irrigation systems. In 1902, it became an incorporated city with a population of over 30,000 people. After World War II ended, Temple City experienced growth as more people moved into the area because of postwar jobs available in agriculture and industry. In 1970, Temple City again became an incorporated city with a population of under 30 thousand people
