The Tracy Air Force Base is located in the city of Tracy, California. It was established on December 15, 1941 and became operational on January 3, 1942. The base has since become one of the largest airfields in the Western United States. The primary mission of the Tracy Air Force Base is to provide training and equipment to American military personnel stationed in California and Nevada. In addition to its military purposes, the Air Force Base also provides a number of recreational activities for residents of Tracy and surrounding areas. Tracy, California is a small town located in the north-central part of the United States. It is bordered by Kern County to the east, Nevada to the west and south, and Mono County to the north. The population was 7,362 at the 2010 census. Tracy's history began with Spanish settlers who arrived in 1769. They named it Rancho San Vicente de la Bahia after their patron saint, Saint Vincent of Paul. In 1851, traders from Sacramento made an unsuccessful attempt to establish a wagon road through Tracy onto what is now Southern California. A year later, gold was discovered in nearby Lassen County and early miners began arriving in Tracy for gold prospecting. By 1859, most of Tracy had been developed as a mining camp with about fifty families living there. During this time period many stores and businesses were built including a bank (1859),Methodist church (1860) and school (1861). In 1865 when California became a state, Tracy became part of Yreka Township which also included present day Isleton and twin towns of Redding and Nyeville. In 1870, Yreka Township was disbanded but its lands were combined with that of Redding Township to form new Yreka Township which still includes present day Tracy today In 1874 an Act providing for organization of counties within California was passed by Congress; on March 16th Oakland County was created from portions of Contra Costa County including parts of Tracy as well as unincorporated areas between Orinda and Folsom In 1892 local water rights were acquired from Niguel Reservoir Authority by Trinity Water Company Limited Niguel Reservoir Authority leased land adjacent to Trinity Water Company on two miles long right-of-way for irrigation purposes This project resulted in dramatic increases in farm productivity due to increased yields from tripled crop size caused by lower water usage . Trinity Water Company continued operations until 1956 when it merged into Pacific Gas & Electric Co . The original Trinity Water Company buildings remain standing today along with some associated infrastructure such as pipelines
