Tracy, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 7,531 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Fresno County and the southern edge of Kern County. Tracy is north-central California's most populous city and the county seat for Kern County. The name Tracy comes from Spanish Mission Santa Rita de Tolosa, established in 1836 near present-day Tracy. The first post office in Tracy was established in 1868, and it continued to serve until 1907. In 1912, the town incorporated as a city under one name or another with a population of only 5 people. By 1920, Tracy had grown to over 20 residents and had adopted its current name of Tracy City Limits after annexing portions of neighboring cities including Hanford (now part of Fresno) and Visalia (now part of Bakersfield). In 1951, Tracy became an official U.S.-Mexico border crossing point known as Paso del Norte between San Francisco Bay Area Mexico and Baja California Sur United States; however this service ended on July 1st 1960 due to increasing calls for access eastward across the international boundary at that location following passage through San Joaquin Valley by Interstate 880 en route to Stockton from Lodi Airport directly eastward across state lines into Nevada proper during those years; which made Diablo Canyon much more likely to become an open border crossing location should future legislation pass authorizing such crossings within California’s borders/national boundaries! After some community debate surrounding annexation into other nearby municipalities following decades-long efforts by Mayor Jack Lynch to have his city annexed into larger ones adjoining it – culminating with a vote by voters in 1995 rejecting any annexation proposals submitted by neighboring cities even though they would have created far more complex municipal structures than what existed currently within TracyCity Limits – Mayor Jerry Brown announced plans on December 15th 1998 officially annexing all but 0.5 square miles (1 km²) southbound on both sides of I-580 from Hanford City limits completely within City Limits thereby making downtown - nestled among towering oak trees just beyond Hanford General Store plaza - now home to about 25 percent (24 out of 30) registered citizens living inside City Limits itself! As result thereof almost immediately prior thereto: all buildings south side I-580 along with all property east side I-580 were sold outright or leased back/backloaded onto parcels already owned/managed by CitylimitsResidents through eminent domain proceedings ensuing thereafter! And so began what has been called "The Great Orange Revolution" era represented locally throughout Downtown Philadelphia & eastern KernCounty beginning Dec 15th 1998 thru May 10th 2002 when final votes were tallied therein resulting in Official Annexation via eminent domain Proceedings commenced subsequent thereto... Tracey remains today one very active & vibrant American Community fully integrated inside both Mexican & American Federal Jurisdictions as well as intra Municipal State Borders...
