Truckee is a small town in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley region of Northern California. It is located in Placer County, about northwest of Sacramento and southeast of Fresno. The population was 14,717 at the 2010 census. Truckee is located on the eastern edge of Yosemite National Park, east of Lake Tahoe, and north of Highway 395. The town was founded in 1878 by John Sutter and his family as a cattle ranch named "Sutter's Meadows". The first post office was established in 1879. By 1886, Truckee had developed into a small town with a Temperance Society hall, grocery store, restaurant, bank account and telephone system. In 1889 it became part of the new state of Nevada when it was admitted to the Union as part of California. When Nevada changed its name to CA in 1912, Truckee remained an unincorporated community until 1943 when it incorporated under the new name "Truckee" after John Alder Truax who served as its first mayor from 1913 until his death in 1944. Today Truckee features two hospitals (Mudd Memorial Hospital and University Hospitals), four schools (USD 152 public school; USD 219 Modesto Junior College; USD 261 Garvin School District), two libraries (Libraries Unlimited Inc., Pacific Library System) and three parks (Yosemite National Park; Placer County Fairgrounds). The Town Council has also approved plans for redevelopment that would add more than 100 jobs over five years while preserving much of downtown Truckeye including its historic architecture and winding streetscape.

Truckee is a small city in the Siskiyou Mountains of California, United States. Truckee was founded in 1868 by brothers Isaac and Jacob Truckee as a station on the Central Pacific Railroad. It became an important agricultural center after its discovery of gold in 1874. The city was incorporated in 1903. The population was 30,914 at the 2000 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now Truckee were fur traders traveling down the Sacramento River in search of new sources of food and trade goods. Captain John Cranch discovered gold near Rocklin on January 20, 1849, and soon reported his finds to other parties of travelers passing through central California (including George Atherton). In March 1849, Captain Cranch's party set out from San Francisco with two boats filled with men and supplies for exploring the Sacramento Valley. They reached Indian Spring about mid-July, but no gold had been found there yet—the area still being explored by others beforehand! On July 25th Captains Ulysses S. Grant and William Higginson discovered gold at Siskiyou Lake while searching for General Crocker's forces that had been sent against the Bear Flag Rebellion five weeks earlier. On August 3rd Grant's party reached Gold Hill where they found over $4 thousand worth of coins including $2 into each vial! These discoveries led to intensified efforts by both California Governor Joaquin Miller and Major General James Bissonnette to find more sites where gold could be mined; these efforts eventually resulted in over 160 million dollars' worth of treasure being recovered from various parts of California between 1850-1863! This wealth helped finance many important moments during this period such as Franklin D Roosevelt becoming President of America on November 4th year –historic because it marks not just one event but three different presidents discovering new landmass within our borders thanks mostly to federal investment! In 1862 Captain Jens Christensen organized a group called "The diggers" which aimed to prospect for minerals northeastward beyond Stockton along what is now Interstate 5 outside present day Fresno County; however their efforts never yielded any significant amounts of ore until 1865 when they struck pay dirt at Mill Creek about 10 miles east (now part of Vacaville) from where
