The United States Army was founded on November 8, 1846, in Sacramento, California. The first American military forces were stationed in San Francisco and the city of Monterey. On December 12, 1847, General George Crocker was named Commandant of the California Military Academy at Santa Fe. Colonel James Fenton was named Provost Marshal for the school. The first classes were held on January 6, 1850. In 1861, during the American Civil War, General John Custer was killed while leading his regiment into battle against the Union Army in Montana Territory. For this event and other actions carried out by Generals Crocker and Fenton during their short time as Commandants ofCalifornia Military Academies respectively, they are considered to be part of the history of the army in Turlock. In 1912-1913 a new armament factory known as “Athletic Arms” was built in Turlock by Prentice-Hall Sons (now Pearson Education). At that time it was one of only two such factories operated by private enterprise within America’s Department of Defense (DoD). The production line produced rifles for both World War I and World War II servicemen from United States companies including Colt Corporation and Winchester Repeating Arms Company. In 1954-1955 a new training facility known as “Army Training Center” opened at nearby Big Bear Lake which became home to basic infantry training exercises for all branches of the U.S Armed Forces until 1978 when Fort Irwin replaced it as Central California’s sole provider of high level military training functions under DoD directive 55001(C)(2) entitled “Maintaining National Security through Basic Infantry Training” Since its opening Army Training Center has been host to an ever expanding variety and number of programs providing Soldier skills essential to our nation's defense including: airborne operations; disaster relief; Chemical warfare; counterinsurgency warfare; special operations forces commando reconnaissance/action support; supply management/intelligence collection/analysis; medical treatment/ambulance services; law enforcement activity; environmental awareness program

The United States Army Garrison Turlock, California was established in 1881. The first post was at Fort Tejon, which was relocated to the current site in 1887. The commandant of the garrison at that time was Major General John C. Fremont. In 1898, Captain George Armstrong Custer was killed in action near Arizona and his battalion, the 7th Cavalry Regiment, became the first U.S. military unit to conduct an autopsy on a living victim of battle after Genghis Khan's death. The Army Post Unit #2 arrived here in 1907 and completed construction of a new arsenal and storeroomnas part of what is now known as Building A-1 on Corcoran Street in 1912. In 1916, Camp Roberts (later Camp Riley) opened as an infantry camp and artillery range located adjacent to present day Building B-2 on North Main Street nearpresent day Building D-3; both buildings were constructed by private enterprise for use by the army during World War I. During World War II Headquarters Battery (HBT) 5th Infantry Division Field Artillery assigned here from Camp Beale outside Sacramento participated in air raids over San Francisco Bay Area on Dec 10/1946 In 1947 Headquarters Battery (HBT) 4th Infantry Division Field Artillery also moved from Camp Beale to this site when HBT enrollment increased with peacetime expansion of Army National Guard units activated for service during Korean War On Dec 8/1950 The 930 mm howitzer gun M777A6was transferred from Ft Ord CA to HQB 3rd Infantry Division at Turlock California
Turlock, California is a small town located in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous community in San Joaquin County after Stockton and the third most populous community of any kind in Kern County. The Turlock-Lodi Airport is home to Van Nuys Airport and has passenger service from Oakland, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. The first humans to live here were Native Americans who called the area "Tulare" meaning "humble place." In 1847, George Custer discovered gold in what is now Turlock when his regiment happened to be passing through this area on their way from exploring for gold near Sutter's Fort. This discovery led to numerous people coming to look for gold hereabouts and also started up a mining industry which continued until about 1881 when new technology made it possible for people to extract more coal from hard rocks than had been done before. The post office was established at Tulare in 1853; it changed its name to Turlock in 1865 because of the growing town nearby (the original name). The first store was built on Main Street around 1860 by Elisha Cooks. A hotel followed suit soon afterward and there were also various other businesses established during these years including a bakery, saddlery, wagon maker, physician/surgeon office and several schools including one founded by PTA member Mrs. Fenton as early as 1870! In 1892 an act was passed Congress authorizing construction of a railroad overland between Stockton and Merced so that goods could be hauled downriver instead of being transported ashore via canals or ocean boats which took weeks or even months! Construction began shortly thereafter with the line reaching Turlock on October 24th 1902! The townspeople got together to put up some local buildings such as a courthouse and jail but everything else was built by private individuals or groups acting under authority granted by Congress! It wasn’t until 1912 that electric lights were introduced into the town Limits parade ground whereupon many businesses went out of business because they couldn’t compete with this newfangled illumination! For many years there remained only gaslights available for public use while homespun lanterns still graced many streets late into the night! But all good things must come to an end – especially when highway transportation became available courtesy of Interstate 80 which bypassed Turlock altogether during its construction project two decades later! Consequently much commercial space formerly devoted to retail operations closed down leaving turlocks residents mostly confined within their own communities (outside services like restaurants etc.) rather than enjoying all that Silicon Valley hasto offer . . . although today’s downtown contains some interesting architecture dating back over 100 years !

Turlock is a city in Butte County, California, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butte County. The name means "place where the (ettle) grows." The first settler in what is now Turlock was George C. Smith who located a cabin on the east side of Big River in 1859. In 1864, John Sutter and his party discovered gold near present-day Turlock and named it after their discovery, San Miguel Creek from Spanish mythology which signifies "the great river that flows to meet the sea". On December 20, 1868, John Sutter and his party established an adobe ranch called Rancho San Miguel de Atwater within present day Turlock. The town of Turlock was platted in 1865 by Wm Hoadley and James McNealy under the name of Atwater City but due to lack of population growth this appellation was dropped from official records in 1868. A post office called Atwater City was established on March 15, 1870 by order of Governor Prentice Mather with Charles Fenton as Postmaster. However because there were already several towns with similar names throughout California named after creek headings such as Redding City (1867), Crescent City (1872), Solano (1876), Gold Rush (1879), etc., such an outpost would have been superfluous and abandoned within a few years; Accordingly Atwater City remained unincorporated until it incorporated as a city on February 12, 1896 with Wm Hoadley as its first mayor. In 1906 Union Pacific Railroad built a tunnel between Auburn and Sacramento mainline so they could reach Oakland more quickly for shipping goods through the Central Valley and avoid having to go downriver all the way to Stockton This made Forstmanville more important than ever as far reaching transportation hub for agriculture around Stanislaus Valley
Turlock was founded in 1853 by John H. Turlock and his wife, Sarah. The town was named for the Locken family, who had settled there in 1847. The first post office in Turlock opened in 1854. In 1865, the town was renamed for Samuel Tilden, then governor of California. In 1886, it became an incorporated city. On December 15, 1912, the city lost its charter and became a part of Modesto County.
