Tustin was founded in 1885 by Charles P. Tustin and his brother, George W. Tustin. The brothers were partners in the grocery store and dry goods business which they operated from their home on Front Street for many years. In 1911, the family sold their grocery store and moved to a larger building on Main Street where they continued to run the business until it closed in 1967. In 1919, Charles P. Tustin donated land for a public park which is now known as Christmas Tree Park. The park has been used for many purposes over the years including tennis courts, a playground, a swimming pool, and more. The town of Tustin started out as a small community consisting of only about 100 residents when it was founded in 1885. By 1907, there were over 1,000 people living in Tustin with its main commercial district located at Fourth Avenue and Main Street. Businesses such as generators (used to power streetlights), livery services (which transported goods to customers), groceries, candy stores, theaters (including one built specifically for movies), and other enterprises thrived during this time period. By 1920, when prohibition began to be effective in California, businesses such as liquor stores and restaurants decided not to open because of how dangerous it would be for employees to bring booze into the state without getting caught. This led to an economic downturn for the town due to jobs being lost as well as homes being abandoned after businesses closed down around them. However, things started to turnaround starting around 1925 when Harry Bridges came onto the scene alongside his father-in-law John Ayerbach who ran an insurance company called Ayerbach/Bridges Insurance Company that specialized in property insurance coverage while also owning several bars along Fourth Avenue which became known collectively as “The Brick Store” due to their construction material usage throughout Prohibition era times (see photo below). Starting around 1930s through 1940s saw an increase of business activity with new housing being constructed all throughout downtown Tustin becoming available which helped support more people within the community who wanted or needed homes closer thereto instead of havingto leave their properties during prohibition days just because they could not sell what they had inside! Unfortunately by 1945 things had turned negative once again with virtually all businesses closing down within city limits due mainlyto World War II rationing that caused prices on essential items like foodstuffs skyrocketed! However since then there have been sporadic attempts made by various groups downtownward towards revitalization but no major progress has been made unfortunately! In recent decades there have been efforts made both from individuals within city limits as well as outside entities including developers looking into resurrecting downtown areas however nothing definitive has yet happened! Although much work still needs done especially considering how poorly these efforts have typically fared historically speaking…..
