Army gift history in Tustin, California began with the founding of the Tustin Volunteer Fire Department on December 6, 1916. The volunteer department was first led by Capt. George L. Hagen and firefighters from neighboring cities of Ventura and Simi Valley. In 1932, the City Council passed a resolution urging the Army to provide fire safety training for local residents. On October 5, 1933, Captain Harry Wolk presented an order from General George Custer directing the Santa Ana Memorial Battalion to form a unit to give military lessons to civilians in Tustin. The battalion arrived on November 1st and quickly became known as "The Corps." In 1936, volunteers from both the city and battalion gathered together to raise money for new equipment for the department which would become City Hall Station #1 (now City Hall Building). After several years of fundraising, the station was dedicated on May 15th 1938 with Mayor John Ahern as honorary president. From 1941-1945, World War II interrupted donations towards firefighter equipment; however, after hostilities ended it resumed slowly until 1976 when funds were finally available once again. By 1978 all departments had received new apparatus andStation #2 was dedicated at Pioneer Park (now North Park Elementary School). In 1970-1972 a citizens committee spearheaded by Mr./Mrs./Dr., Don & Betty Brown donated $5K towards purchasing two large trailers which would serve as Headquarters/Command Center for all departments - now known as "The Block". With this donation came an era of growth for City Hall Station #1 where more than 100 officers now worked out of four spacious rooms! As gifts continued to pour in - including three cars in 1993 - we are proud to say that Tustin has one of Orange County's most well-maintained parks full of beautiful fire stations dating back over 120 years!

Tustin, California is a small town located in Orange County, California. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Irvine metropolitan area. The Tustin post office was established on December 7, 1912. The first store in Tustin opened its doors to the public on December 15th. By 1916, there were three stores and two businesses in Tustin with a population of just over 100 residents. In 1922, the post office moved from its original location to an new building which still stands today on Main Street across from City Hall. In 1923, the name of the town changed from "Tustin" to "Irvine". On January 10th, 1951, President Harry S Truman delivered his inaugural address at City Hall in front of a crowd of more than 3000 people who had come to see him take office. That same year saw the opening of First Baptist Church in Tustin by Reverend Drs Charles E Barber and J H Wilkinson with assistance from Mrs Alice Upson Pemberton and Rev C G Candler (the first black pastor in Orange County). In 1957-1960 there were significant changes taking place within both Mr & Mrs Kapp's grocery store when they merged their operations into one business under what would become known as Kapp's Grocery Co., Incorporated (NBCI). This marked the beginning of what would be an important period for NBCI as it became one of America's leading grocers during that time frame; eventually becoming part of Kroger Companies after World War II. Numerous other businesses have followed suit over ensuing years including:inventory management company SmithKline Beecham which merged with Pharmacia & Upjohn Company;coffee roaster Peet's Coffee which moved its production facilities from San Diego to Tustin; finally Artisan Shoes which closed up shop early last decade and left behind a large number (over 100) job losses throughout their various locations throughout Southern California due primarily to competition from Wal-Mart Stores Inc.. Today most residents are engaged either full time or part time work within local government or nonprofit organizations such as churches or schools serving those communities around them while some continue enjoying everyday recreational activities such as fishing or swimming at nearby Lake Irvine Resort
