Tustin is a small city in Southern California, on the border with Orange County. It's located just south of coastal Kern County and east of Irvine. The population was 24,525 at the 2010 census. Tustin is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The name "Tustin" comes from two old Mexican place names: Tustín and Tunstín. In 1821, José María Guerrero y Costilla founded a rancho (land grant) called Rancho Tustín near what is now downtown Tustin. At that time, it was known as part of Yorba Linda County. In 1847, Manuel Pulido y Acosta granted Rancho Tubiacácito to Juan Bautista de Anza for his family's use and cattle raising operation in present-day Buena Park and eastern Santa Ana counties. Rancho Tubiacácito included most of what is now Downtown TUSTIN. In 1881, John Sutter discovered gold at Sutter's Mill in this area and named it after him – San Bernardino Valley Goldfield (now San Bernardino County). He also found silver thereabouts. The first post office in this area was established at Sutter's Mill on December 17, 1881 by WmSomers & Bros., merchants whose store front still can be seen today on Main Street between First Avenue and East Fourth Street in downtown TUSTIN! In 1886–87, local citizens built the original courthouse which still stands today adjacent to the current City Hall building on North First Avenue - one of only a few remaining examples from early decades when town halls were not common throughout much of Southern California! In 1915–16, artesian water wells were drilled nearby by Jenssen Brothers Well Drilling Company Ltd., resulting in increased production for agricultural purposes; however these wells did not lead to any significant increase in business until after World War II when residents became more interested in water supply than mining because oil began to be produced here as well (see Refinery Oil Field below). Later that year developer Harry AAF bought out Jenssen Brothers Well Drilling Company Ltd., becoming Harry AAF Petroleum Corporation which operated various oil refineries scattered through southern California during the 1930s into the 1990s including one right next door to where we stand today – just across North First Avenue from City Hall! During those years our refinery continued producing gasoline for local automobiles along with other industrial products like plastics and lubricants etc….until it closed its doors all together due to code violations back then (and still does!) but we’re confident that our story won’t end there 😉 . Today HAP services about 2 million customers per day processed through over 200 stations located statewide! We employ around 1400 people providing support services such as asphalt pavement repair/maintenance; asphalt paving; truck driving operations; refinery product storage; pipeline maintenance; chemical storage…..to name a few 🙂 . Some interesting facts about TUSTIN: •Established on December 17th 1881 by WmSomers & Bros., Merchants who had their Storefront still visible today across Main Street between First Ave and East 4th St inside Downtown TUSTIN! This gave us our start as an Oil Refinery within less than 25yrs later 😉 •First Post Office opened up at Sutter’s Mill on December 17th 1886 under auspices of Harry AAF Petroleum Corp DBA HAP with fellow Citizens having contributed $2 ‘for use upon their home front’ according to surviving Records •During those Years Our Refinery continued Producing Gasoline For Local Automobiles along With Other Industrial Products like Plastics And Lubricants etc……until It Closed Its Doors Alltogether Due To Code Violations back Then(And Still Does!) Tustin, California is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 103,638 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Orange County after Newport Beach and is the tenth most populous city in Southern California. According to Business Insider, "Tustin's economy is based on its aerospace, defense and technology businesses." In addition to its economy, Tustin has been ranked as a " global resort town" by Forbes magazine for several years consecutively. The first inhabitants of what is now Tustin were Native American people who lived along the Santa Ana River system. They built villages near present-day San Clemente and Honda Roads before migrating eastward overland in search of new land to settle. A group of Spanish missionaries arrived in 1769 and began missionary work among these indigenous peoples. The area around present-day Tustin was part of Mission San Fernando Rey de Los Angeles until 1821 when it became part of Mexico City following the Mexican War of Independence from Spain. The first European settlement in what is now Tustin was made by entrepreneur John Sutter during his Gold Rush expedition across southern California in 1849. He named his new town after himself – Sutter's Valley – because he found gold nearby (now known as Canoga Park). After some time, Sutter sold his holdings in Tustin to James Waugh who renamed it after himself – Waugh Valley – because he had also discovered gold nearby (now known as La Jolla). Waugh later sold his holdings to John Cushing who naming it after himself – Cushing Valley – because he had also discovered gold nearby (now known as Irvine). In 1903, Raymond Meecham bought all rights to the name “TUSTIN” from Waugh and Cushings and changed it to its current form; today’s City of Tustin! During World War II, portions of northern Orange County were included within Alameda County (later Contra Costa County) due to wartime shortages of labor force necessary for military productionikhough much of southern Orange County remained within Anaheim County (later Silicon Valley) because that area was under Japanese control at that time. As a resultof this distributional situation two adjacent communities emerged: Anaheim Hills on one side and Irvine on the otherside OF Anaheim Hills! Because both areas were rural at that time there wasn't any major industry existing until more recently with development concentrated mainly around Lynndale Heights/City Center which includes Disneyland Resort/ Universal Studios Hollywood - Miracle Mile!Although Irvine experienced rapid growthduring postwar suburbanization outside Of City Limitsthe boundaries between City Centre & Lynndale Heights have steadily grown since then with limited redevelopment inside CITY LIMITS!!!
