Tustin, California is a small town in the Santa Clarita Valley located about an hour and a half north of Los Angeles. The population was 9,351 at the 2010 census. It has been called "the last great American city" because it has seen consistent growth since its incorporation as a town in 1907. Tustin is also known for its annual Tustin Jazz Festival which features world-class jazz artists from around the world. The first inhabitants of what is now Tustin were Indian settlers who arrived between 1847 and 1853. In 1858, Spanish colonists arrived and organized a mission here. In 1886, Mexican settlers arrived and established a rancho here. A post office named Rancho Tustin was established in 1909. In 1911, the city of Los Angeles was incorporated and most of what is now east Orange County became part of it; including much of what is now south Orange County (including parts of today's Tustin). The annexation set off a series of debates over boundaries between the two cities that continue to this day. Tustin, California is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 66,531 at the 2010 census. It is surrounded by Anaheim and Anaheim Hills to the south and east, Long Beach to the north and west, Seal Beach to the northwest and Yorba Linda to the northwest. Tustin's history can be traced back to 1887 when J.P. Morgan established a citrus grove here on land he had acquired from José Joaquin Morral y Valdés. The early settlers wereavid American Indians who hunted deer and wild game near Tustin Landing on Mission Bayou. The first post office was founded in 1892 under the name of Eureka Springs with James Wickersham as its first clerk. In 1902 a second post office called Wildomar was opened in what is now Garden Grove; it was discontinued operation in 1912 due to lack of mail traffic. In 1903 Tustin became an incorporated town with a population of about 10 residents under Drury Cletus Thomson, who served as its first mayor for three terms from 1904-1908 inclusive. In 1907 Tustin annexed portions of Anaheim which formed today's City of Anaheim; however annexation never happened because there was no vote by both cities' boards of directors regarding whether or not to join together as one municipality pursuant to then-law #569 (now codified into city charter §2). With increasing growth within its own limits, Tustin annexed adjacent areas of Huntington Park (now Seal Beach) in 1909 after successfully lobbying by Mayor John Smedley Jr.; this annexation also never happened because both cities' Boards did not have enough valid signatures submitted for ratification at that time. In 1916 Tustin became home to what would become known as "the Birthplace of Orange County" when dynamite detonated over nearby Newport News Shipbuilding Company’s new shipyard killing 15 workers including future U .S . President Franklin D “FDR” Roosevelt on April 6th marking completion of World War I; henceforth renamed “The Death Zone” following the attack(s). In 1940 during World War II Tustin experienced one of history's largest concentration camps called Rancho San Bernardino until its closure six years later due purely financial reasons following the implementation of Operation Paperclip – Nazi Germany's efforts to secure American citizens for use in their war effort by extracting them through forced labor aboard their ships arriving at Spanish ports- thereby violating United States neutrality regulations prohibiting such activities (see: "Operation Paperclip"). This event has been referredto variously as "The Mockingbird Incident", "The openingofthe West Coast Gulag", or simply "The Camp". A year before his death on January 20th, 1944 Hollywood producer Irving Thalberg donated $10 million dollars towards establishing Santa Anita Racetrack where current day Hollywood Park now stands – making it golf course No 1 in Southern California!
