Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, many prominent Hollywood actors and actresses visited CAFÉ Twentynine Palms for drinks after performances or receptions at their homes. In 1951, TWENTYNINE PALMS HOTEL AND RESORT FIRST OPENED ITS DOOR TO THE PUBLIC WITH A SPECIAL BREWING PROGRAM THAT INCLUDED WAVES OF COFFEE FROM SAN JOSE AREA ROASTERS COFFEEHOUSE. Twentynine Palms is a city in San Diego County, California. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan area. The name "Twentynine Palms" comes from the fact that it was two days ride from Encinitas on Highway 1 to where the town was founded by Europeans in 1887. The first post office opened in 1888 and the first store opened in 1890. The original planned community had thirty homes and one hundred acres of land; however, only six homes were built and the community failed to take off due to lack of support from local businessmen. The town resurfaced after World War II when veteran Bill Thurston bought land next to what is now City Hall for a veterans' home and airplane factory called "Thurston Air Force Base". He donated more than sixteen thousand square feet (1,600 m²) of land for a new city hall which he named "Twentynine Palms". After Thurston's death in 1957, his wife donated another thirteen thousand square feet (1100 m²) for use as a public library. In 1969, additional property was donated by Donald Trump for use as an airport expansion hangar and golf course. The town became official when it passed through incorporation on November 5th, 1971 under the name Twentynine Palms Village Incorporated. In 1990, Twentynine Palms Village Incorporated merged with Rancho Mirage into one municipality known as Rancho Mirage-Twentynine Palms Municipal Borough No 1. As part of this merger, all business licenses were transferred from Encinitas to Rancho Mirage-Twentynine Palms Municipal Borough No 1 so that residents could start using less expensive municipal services without having to go through encinitas city government or its fees. In 1992–1993 Interstate 10 between Encinitas and Rancho Mirage was realigned so that it ran north–south instead of east–west which caused traffic congestion within our borders which led many businesses within our borders closed down because they didn't want their customers coming into our borough but going out toEncinitas because they could still get service through their corporate offices there
