The history of firearms in Twentynine Palms, California can be traced back to the early 1800s. At that time, the area was part of Mexico and there were no gun laws in place. Consequently, many American settlers began bringing their rifles and shotguns to the area. As a result, the Gun Owners of America (GOA) was formed in 1951 and has been working to keep firearms outlawed in California ever since. One of the earliest guns to arrive in Twentynine Palms was an old rifle belonging to Captain George Waddell. He arrived in 1849 and purchased the rifle from José Gomez at Rancho San Pedro de la Ciudad de Mexico. The rifle was used by Captain Waddell during his campaign for Governor of Alta California in 1851. In 1854, John Sapper bought land adjacent to rancho San Pedro for $10 per acre. This land became known as Sapper’s Rancho and eventually housed some of Twentynine Palms’ most popular attractions such as golf courses, swimming pools, tennis courts, movie theaters and more. The first store located on this property opened its doors on July 4th, 1875. It is believed that this store was called The Pistolero Shop because it sold pistols only! Soon after Sapper’s Store opened its doors, other stores followed suit throughout Twentynine Palms. These stores became known as “The Gun Gents” because they sold rifles only! By 1907, there were over 20 “The Gun Gents” locations across Twentynine Palms! In 1912, Hahnemann & Sons department store moved into town and became one of the longest-standing businesses downtown! This store has been continuously open until today!

Twentynine Palms is a small city located in San Diego County, California. The population was 33,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area and is included in the Mexico City–Tijuana Combined Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Twentynine Palms was made by Father Isidro Lopez on November 27, 1847. Father Lopez had been sent from Mexico to explore a new land grant that he believed would be his final reward for his missionary work there. He named the settlement "Los Angeles" (the God's eyes) after his hometown of Los Angeles,Mexico City. On July 29, 1850,twenty-eight settlers from El Cajon traveled overland from San Diego to join Father Lopez at Los Angeles. They were joined by another group on October 12 of that year; these immigrants were known as the Forty Nines because they numbered forty out of eighty who had applied for passage to Oregon Territory under President James K. Polk's administration. The town site was selected due to its proximity to both Mexican and American rivers and springs, as well as its potential for agriculture based on its location near an existing watercourse and several hills used for grazing animals."There was much discussion among the founders about where they would build their homes: some proposed closer to Mexican Creek than others since it would provide them with easy access to irrigation water; others favored higher ground overlooking bothMexican and American Rivers because this would give them a commanding view of downtown Los Angeles." It wasn't until 1858 when Twentynine Palms incorporated as a village under the name "Palo Alto". In 1862, during warship bombardments against Confederate forces ashore at La Jolla Shipyards off Qualcomm Cove, troops discovered coins minted during Spanish rule in Southern California - one example being an 1840 $5 gold piece found at Point Loma - which led to increased scrutiny of local money supply and economy . This caused bankers within Palo Alto – including Samuel Morse –to promote regulation of coinage through legislation passed by state legislators called The Collectors' Act . As a result of this attention by authorities,... more people started moving intoTwentynine Palms." In 1865... Mayor George Wetherington began planning annexation into Pasadena so that Palo Alto could become one municipality again"but negotiations between Palo Alto officials and Pasadena leaders bogged down." By 1870...growth in Twentynine Palms had slowed enough that Mayor Wetherington recommended annexing it instead ." In 1871...Pasadena annexed Twentynine Palms without any problems ."In 1915...the last remaining vestige of Spanish rule ended when Californians ratified Proposition 8 , legalizing gay marriage nationwide ." Assembling all these pieces together has resulted inTwentynine Palms becoming one of America’s most significant historical communities ." Today,...it remains home not just to residents but also many businesses including banks and law firms which have contributed significantly to its rich cultural history ."
Twentynine Palms is a city in the San Bernardino County of California, United States. The population was 26,971 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The site of Twentynine Palms was given to America by Spain in 1769 as part of Rancho Cucamonga de Santa Anita. It became a Mexican land grant in 1821 and then an American state land grant in 1848. In 1860, it became a town with its own government when it was combined with other towns in San Bernardino County to form the new county of San Bernardino. In 1872, Twentynine Palms incorporated as a city after being granted city status by the California Legislature. The first mayor was John Waddell and the first City Council included six representatives from each township within San Bernardino County except for Canoga Park which had five residents on council. In 1948, Twentynine Palms adopted its present name honouring Edward Hutton who served as governor of California from 1913-1917 and later served as U.S Ambassador to Mexico from 1928-1929
