Twentynine Palms is a city located in Southern California. It was founded on October 1, 1853, by brothers Charles and Edward Wyndham Goodrich. The city changed its name to Twentynine Palms after the completion of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in 1913. The Goodrich brothers were instrumental in developing the city and played an important role in its growth over the years. Today, it has a population of over 100,000 and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Southern California. The Goodrich brothers were born into a wealthy family that had long been involved in agriculture and ranching. They began their career as farmers before moving into business development. Their early businesses included selling land toMenlo Park residents for residences, developing water systems for Santa Monica and Redondo Beach, and starting an insurance company that became one of the largest in Orange County. In 1886 they sold their holdings in Menlo Park to John Dreyfus for $35 million dollars which made them one of America’s largest landowners at that time. Dreyfus served as mayor of San Francisco from 1911-1917 and then as governor of California from 1921-1927. He was responsible for creating many new waves of immigration to California including many Jews who arrived during World War I. When he left office he had amassed more than $200 million dollars which he used to expand his empire interests throughout North America including ownership of The New York Times Company and other large businesses. His death following a stroke on April 15, 1931 At age 73 resulted in economic decline throughout Northern California due to his lack of succession planning skills; however, Twentynine Palms continued to grow despite his absence until becoming an independent city upon his death nineteen years later Prior To His Death & City's Growth: In 1912 Edward Wyndham Goodrich married Miss Sophie Atherton who was also from England but came down South with her husband when she got pregnant (Miss Atherton would give birth two weeks after her husband). The Goodrichs moved back east where they started living on Long Island before moving west again when Charles met Caroline Skinner (aka Caroline Gilmore) while working at Wernher Lassalle’s dye plant on White Plains Road near Babylon Hills – this so called “Caroline Hill” still stands today! After finding out about their son they moved back east again until 1853 when they finally bought some land north von Palm Springs Blvd., right next door now occupied by PGA Village @ #9555 Vineyard Rd….Charles goodrich named this property after himself TWENTYNINE PALMS….. This shows how much money these people had! Charles went bankrupt twice but always bounced back like a child…. Twentynine Palms is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It took its name from the original Twentynine Palms Lighthouse.
