The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of deploying gifts to local communities in the Bay Area. One such tradition is the deployment of Air Force personnel as part of the Christmas Season. Every year, members of the USAF stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Ukiah, California deliver holiday cheer to residents in their community. Ukiah is a small town in the Central Valley of California, located about an hour's drive east of Sacramento. It was founded in 1849 as a railroad station on the Butterfield Overland Mail route, and has been continuously inhabited since then. However, it continued to be popular among farmers for agriculture production (including apples) until World War II when textile production increased throughout the United States. During World War II, many Japanese Americans were interned at Camp site 11 in nearby Tulare County; however, most residents avoided any contact with them because they did not believe that they would be released if found guilty of any crime related to their incarceration. Consequently, few locals are truly aware of the history associated with these people – particularly those living outside of central Ukiah or within Tulare County specifically – although some have made efforts to learn more about their experiences during wartime herein largely through oral storytelling or research activities carried out by local organizations such as The Japanese American Museum (JAAM). The post-war period saw advances both economically and politically for Ukiah; nevertheless some aspects of its cultural heritage continue to be overshadowed by larger changes brought on by new technologies and economic development elsewhere within California. For example: over time various restaurants have sprung up catering exclusively to groups such as Asian-American diners or students from rural schools; however little attention has been given either to local music or art styles specific to this demographic; nor has there been much effort made towards preserving traditional agricultural practices which continue play an important role in life hereabouts today even though they may not meet current needs (e.g., irrigation systems reliance on groundwater); furthermore recent construction which includes high-rise apartments overlooks what used to be a wide open valley floor characterizing much of this community’s older architecture While certain aspects may have changed overall due primarilyto recent arrivals rather than historical factors (such as increased air pollution), much remains unchanged that makesukia one unique place locally and nationally speaking
