The current State Capitol Building also sits adjacent to Olema Avenue on a site donated by businessman Harry Miller in 1969 following a request from then-Mayor Don Moffitt Jr.. During World War II, much activity took place within or near present day Ukiah due to its strategic location as one of several major military stockpiles along Highway 101 between San Francisco and Sacramento linking those two cities through the Golden Gate Bridgehead area.
