Gun gift history in Union City, California began with the purchase of a revolver by George H. Dixon on November 3rd, 1881. This revolver would become one of the most famous guns in Union City history, and eventually be passed down to his son-in-law and successor, Alonzo Mourning. Mourning would also play an important role in purchasing and donation of firearms to various local organizations throughout his career as a gunsmith. On January 20th, 1912, Alonzo Mourning donated a Winchester Model 70 rifle to the Union City Rifle Club. The rifle was later named in honor of Mourning’s father-in-law, General John J. Pershing. The Union City Rifle Club is still active today and maintains this firearm as their official weapon. The first purchase made by George H Dixon’s son Alonzo was on December 8th 1888 when he purchased a 12 gauge shotgun from Wm J Riddle at 108 N Main Street in town. This shotgun would go on to be used extensively by both Alonzo and his father-in-law during their careers as gunsmiths in Union City. A total of three handguns were purchased between 1881 – 1889: two revolvers (one bought by Dixon’s son Alonzo) and one shotgun (owned by Wm J Riddle). These handguns are currently owned and operated by the Historical Society of Northern California; they are not currently available for sale or rental outside of their permanent collection location inside the historical society building located at 5 S First Street in town since 1988! In 1903, George H Dixon donated a single Smith & Wesson 6 inch service revolver to the Municipal Police Department of Union City! This revolver has been stored at the Historical Society ever since it was donated! It is interesting to note that all but one handgun which was donated between 1881 - 1889 were either rifles or shotguns: pistols only were given between 1893 - 1898! It seems that gun gifts became more common starting around this time period as there were an increased number of requests for firearms from different organizations within townspeople

Union City is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 69,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern edge of San Diego and is part of the larger city-county metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Union City were Spanish missionaries in 1769. The town was founded by526 pioneers from San Francisco who left for California in 1847 as part of the Gold Rush. They named their new settlement after General Sam Houston's hometown, Texas. In 1851, when Californians acquired all but a sliver of Mexico-to-the-northwest and east of Mission Bay (present day Downtown), they decided to name their new community for American president James K. Polk because he had been instrumental in persuading them to secede from Mexico and become an American statehood with Polk as its first governor. When the railroad reached Union City in 1875, it became an important stop on the southward extension of America's rail line into Southern California. A number of businesses were established here including Humble Seed Company which continues to make seeds today, Pacific Steel Works which manufactured locomotives until 1974 and still makes them today as well as many other high technology products such as antennas, GPS receivers and solar panels; First National Bank; Todd Shipyards; Jardine & Watt Inc.; Pest Control Service; El Bordo Bakery; Cantina de Oro Mexican restaurant & bar; Chino Hills Golf Course On December 10th 1935 local merchants organized a “union” against what they saw as unsound banking practices being practiced by First National Bank that caused prices for goods sold by small businesses to increase tenfold or more over those prevailing during pre- depressions days! This campaign led to passage by both houses of the State Banking Code limiting maximum interest rates on savings accounts up to twenty percent per year while also providing emergency lending facilities up to $5000 per day! On January 1st 1906 Union City had its own school system through Citizens' Education Committee prior to that date teaching children between grades one and twelve how best obtain education so that they could “join forces with others working towards common goals”! By 1915 there were five schools within town limits with three high schools – Central High School (now known as Northern Middle School), South High School (now known as Eastern Middle School) and West High School (now known as Western Middle School). There also was a vocational school run out of Seaweed Hall from 1916 until 1949 where students learned carpentry, welding., photography., etc… On May 25th 1923 fire destroyed all six buildings on Main Street killing four people including Mayor Goodnight! The following summer two new buildings were built adjacent thereto replacing these lost structures making total six buildings! Restoration/replication began in earnest about 1978 when Galford Architects LLP took over restoration/replication responsibilities beginning with rebuilding/reenergyment/updates throughout all six original building facades starting at ground zero then going back 100% original except removal or replacement OF FIRE DAMAGE!! Asbestos cleanup commenced circa 1984 when asbestos damage was discovered along WITH ALL THE OTHER MAINTENANCE WORKS NOT LISTED HERE AS OCCURRING AFTER THAT TIME?!? unioncityfuse@gmail com
