The Marines of the Union City Battalion had a long and colorful history. They served in many different capacities during World War II, including combat troops, advisors, and guardsmen. Union City is a city in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 71,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Stockton, within the East Bay Regional District of Contra Costa County. The first people to live in Union City were Native Americans who called it "Ai-yi-ni," meaning "Place where the salmon swim." In 1846, two brothers by the name of James and Josephine Jones founded what would become Union City after purchasing 3 acres (1 km2) of land from Rancho Justo in Bakersfield. They named their new town after their father's native home state of New York. In 1868, Union City became part of San Francisco and remained so until it was annexed by Oakland in 1902 following a vote by its citizens to secede from San Francisco. After years as an agricultural center with small industries and a negligible population until World War II when industry arrived and growth resumed, during the mid-1980s Union City experienced significant gentrification which has created numerous high-end residences as well as commercial development including The Domain Shopping Center that now anchors downtown area Union City is situated on both banks of especially deep wells known for their minerals found there: bauxite and gold are among these resources exploited commercially today. These deep wells have helped make Union City one of the most affluent cities in Northern California due to its location close to major metropolitan areas such as Berkeley orOakland as well as world renowned universities like UC Berkeley and Stanford University. Today, many local businesses continue to operate outfitted with heavy machinery providing services such as construction/demolition/repair; manufacturing; agriculture; plumbing/heating/cooling services etc., while others have closed down completely or moved away due to competition from larger companies supplying these same services closer to populated areas or Interstate 5 freeway access

Union City (formerly known as Jack London) is a city in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 52,744 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno–Madera Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Union City was José Gabriel Buelna on December 7, 1769. On November 30, 1846, the town's charter was granted by Governor of California George C. Smith and it became an incorporated city on December 1st. On July 14, 1850 Union City voters passed a Measure A to annex all of San Joaquin County except for portions of Stockton and Placer County which voted against annexation On January 11, 1861 Union City voters repealed Measure A 67-33%. This event marked the beginning of the end for the city's incorporation drive and its status as an unincorporated community until it re-introceded into San Joaquin County on February 2nd with a new charter granting it full city rights under section 3 of Article XII Section 6 of the Charter of Incorporation On October 1st 1870 Union City residents approved a new constitution that provided for universal suffrage in municipal elections with no property qualifications On November 7th 1870 Union City voters passed another measure to create fire insurance within the city limits In 1887 there were some skirmishes between miners and local law enforcement in what is now known as "the Battle at White Sands" after two townsfolk were killed while protesting sheriff's deputies arresting miners . In 1888 white supremacists attempted to torch down local black businesses during a rally held in support of liquor prohibition
Union City, California was first settled in 1848 by American citizens who were escaping the Mexican-American War. The city grew rapidly and became an important transportation center for the surrounding county. In 1860, Union City was incorporated as a city and quickly developed into a major regional center for agricultural production and commerce. The city experienced dramatic growth during the late 19th century as a result of its strategic location on the Oregon & California Railroad and its access to markets in Northern California. However, during World War II Union City was hit hard by the effects of the war with severe bread shortages that led to high rates of unemployment. The city recovered somewhat after the war but began to decline again in the early 21st century as new development took priority over agriculture and transportation opportunities.
