Union City is a small city in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 13,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Stockton-San Joaquin Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Union City was José Francisco de Tejada on July 10, 1846. He named it "Tejon" after his native Spain. The town began as a cattle rancho and cotton gin near present day West Union Street and Railroad Avenue. In 1868, James Wirt founded the American Pacific Railway in partnership with mining magnate John Dutton, running passenger trains between Sacramento andunioncity through what are now Emeryville and East Palo Alto. In 1870, Wirt donated land east of downtown for incorporation as Union City. In 1875, Union City became an act of state legislature to annex portions of Jaeneche Valley north of Fresno and east of league city including today's Redding and Atherton townships (now parts of Ceres). This gave the city its name: "Unione Civica" - Civic Unity - from Italian for "unity of citizens". In 1890sUnion CITY had one or more breweries per capita that brewed some 14 different brands including Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, Budweiser beer, Miller High Life whiskey etc... Today only one brewery remains in town- New Albion Brewery which opened in May 2017.. One reason for this may be that over time many local businesses outsourced their brewing operations to larger companies outside of town due to lack/smaller budgets etc... However there are several other small breweries still in operation throughout the city including Dry Creek Brewing Company (owned by restaurateur Danny Meyer)AGGRESSIVE Brewery & Grille (owned by Dave Ziegler), Iron Horse Pub & Grill (owned by Jared Leto) ect... Many examples can be found on Google Maps using search terms like "Union City Brewery" or "Small Craft Brewery." A number of large technology companies have also made their homes in Union City over the years such as Apple Inc., Intel Corporation, Facebook Inc., PayPal Holdings Inc., Twitter Inc., Salesforce Technology Solutions LP and Yahoo! Japan Co., Ltd.- all before moving upriver to Mountain View or south into Silicon Valley respectively. Some current/ former leaders from these companies include Tim Cook who served as CEO from 2011-2015; Jeff Weiner who served as Chief Operating Officer from 2005-2009; Marc Andreessen who cofounded Netscape Communications Company; Sergey Brin who founded Google LLC.; Mark Zuckerberg who created Facebook LLC.; Dustin Moskovitz who cofounded LinkedIn Corporation.; Bob Rubin who served as Deputy Secretary at Treasury under George W Bush; Linda Gates whose husband Dennis Samuelson founded Microsoft Corp....Today UnionCity has become home to a number of startups such as First Round Capital LLP which helps startups raise money online; Greenlight Capital LLP which invests in early stage tech startups; Akamai TechnologiesInc.'s Headquarter which houses Akamai's northern California data center assets; SpaceX headquarters located on Fremont Boulevard just across from Golden Gate Park One major development that took place during this time frame was the opening up of Interstate 80 corridor westward from San Francisco via Stockton/Lodi towards Sacramento becoming known locally as 'the Mighty Moad' due to its large volume flowages during rush hour traffic... Another major project completed during this time was the construction around 1990s/2000sof two new high school campuses within 7 miles(Rochester Hills HS(west side) and Arroyo Seco HS(east side)), both serving area students with sports programs along with various other amenities such as libraries etc... presently both schools are closed but restoration efforts continue apace
