The first people to live in what is now Upland were the Mono people who inhabited this area for about 10,000 years before moving south to San Bernardino in 1821. The Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico was founded here in 1834. In 1860, when California became a state, Upland became part of Imperial County. By 1870 it had a population of 2,500 residents and by 1914 it had grown to 9,000 residents. The post office here was established on October 15, 1872. In 1916 the city limits were expanded to include all of Kern County and by 1936 they included all of Fresno County as well In 1937 Upland annexed parts of Nacimiento and Butte Counties which made it one municipality with a total population of over 100,000 people In 1950 the city limits were again expanded to include most of Kern County as well as portions of Tehachapi and Tulare Counties In 1960 Upland incorporated as an unincorporated community within the City of Industry Today there are more than 50 businesses operating in downtown Upland with an estimated payroll worth $24 million per year including wages and salaries paid out directly to employees rather than throughemployers withholding taxes

Upland, California is located in the Central Valley of California and is part of the San Joaquin Valley. The Upland area was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. In 1851, gold was discovered in the area and soon a large population began to move to the region. The name “Upland” was given to the land because of its high elevations, making it difficult for other settlement attempts. The region remained rural until after World War II when farming became more prevalent and subdivisions were created around larger towns and villages. Today, there are over 20 municipalities in Upland with a population of over 100,000 people. The history of Upland can be traced back to 1776 when Spanish soldiers discovered gold near present-day Saugus Heights. A number of settlements were established along this route as prospectors made their way to find this valuable resource. By 1851, several small communities had formed around these new finds including Saugus Heights which would later become known as Upland. From here, small businesses grew while miners continued finding gold throughout the years until it officially ended production at Saugus Heights on September 9th, 1850 following a successful strike by workers organized by Charles Evans Hughes (the namesake of today’s Hughes Air Force Base). As mining operations ceased, settlers began moving into what is now Upland from various parts of central California looking for opportunities for agriculture or ranching outside of Sacramento County. By 1860, there were over 200 residents living in what is now UplAND with most coming from areas east and west of Sacramento River mouth such as Auburn Hills/Salinas northwestward through Yucca Valley and southward through Hanford Valley leading up into Imperial County then eastward into Placer County before finally reaching present day Orange County where they developed dairy farms or sold their holdings back to Mexican immigrants who had brought them across the borderland during that time period specifically for agriculture purposes! Interestingly enough many early buildings still stand today within some current communities such as Salinas which dates back to 1865 when citizens erected a wooden schoolhouse on Government Street; today’s city hall was built directly next door in 1924! Most significantly however two major landmarks associated with early development within present-day UPLAND include: First Lady Hill Cemetery located off Highway 49 northwest of town center dating back to 1875 which contains remains dating back all the way to Rancho Cucamonga; also Iron Mountain Resort & Spa situated just west of town center serving up top quality spa services since 1907!
